Tungulending

Húsavík, Northeastern Region, Iceland

If you, the heart full of longing for the midnight sun and northern lights, travel north, you will come to the legendary Iceland full of volcanoes, geysers and other natural phenomena. Up here almost at the Arctic Circle, where the whales meet in summer, a rocky road leads down the cliff to a small former landing stage for the local fishermen directly on the shore.

Lonely, in the middle of the overwhelming nature, there is a beautiful house. Where fishermen have processed their catch for over 50 years and obtained the valuable caviar from it, families or friends can now spend their vacation together. The house has a variety of rooms, a large common room and a fully equipped kitchen. Furnished with a mix of self-made and collected furniture in the style of the 60s to 90s - the counter made of wooden pallets, old tin lamps and maritime decorative elements everywhere, which recall the original function of the building. All sorts of recycled and upcycled goods can be found throughout the house, including in the cozy bedrooms, which are furnished simply but with great attention to detail.

The house can accommodate up to 15 guests in 7 rooms. Bathrooms with showers and toilets are available. The common area and most rooms have sea views.

The natural spectacles and sights in the nearer and wider region of northern Iceland offer an overwhelming offer. Assuming you have a car to get there. It is overwhelming to just sit on the terrace of Tungulending and look at the panorama. If you are lucky, you can even see whales or northern lights.

Sustainable

ArchitectureWhat used to be a corrugated iron covered shed is now a well thought out holiday home that has been renovated and expanded with the most sustainable possible means. Large modern windows now allow the view to go far beyond the sky, sea and mountains. Inside, the old structures, such as concrete walls, are visible as style elements. Old wood and unclad beams also contribute to the harmonious overall concept, as does the stair-shaped terrace in front of the house with a panoramic view of the great natural spectacle all around. The implementation of the renovation work was done in cooperation with small local businesses and a lot of manual work.
