Homoki Lodge

Ruzsa, Southern Great Plain, Hungary

Seven Yurts named after seven legendary princes, dishes cooked on the basis of the five elements and five flavors, a traditional farmhouse furnished with a hedonistic mixture of cozy furniture and patterned fabrics.

All in a wide landscape without fences and other limitations, which is ideal for being conquered on horseback, as the migrating Huns and Magyars once did with today's Hungary. After centuries of nomadism, they finally settled permanently in these wide sandy plains - “Homoki” means “sand” by the way.

And that's what Birgit and Oliver Christen did, who originally came from Vienna after many trips around the world since 1997, have found an oasis of peace here, where they and their guests are now between horses, sheep and pristine nature can come to rest. This sandy area obviously has something inviting ...

Sustainable

ArchitectureThe Homoki Lodge is a historic farmstead with several larger and smaller buildings, many with thick old walls and thatched roofs, which have been carefully renovated and beautifully restored and furnished. The original life of the Magyars was modeled with the yurts. The yurts are thermally insulated and divided creatively into different rooms on several levels.

FoodIn Homoki Dine there is an exciting mix of the gourmet cuisine of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the more than a thousand year old traditional Hun-Hungarian cuisine. This is based on the one hand on the five elements known at that time - fire, water, earth, iron, wood - and on the other hand on the harmony between the five flavors - sweet, sour, salty, bitter and hot. This type of cooking also requires a strict order. Ingredients that grow underground are processed first, then those that grow on the ground. Then comes what moves on the earth, and at the very end of the cooking process, the ingredients that come from above the earth, such as fruits and birds. But part of everything has to go in - for harmony. You can drink homemade juices and lemonades, Hungarian beer and other regional drinks. In addition, of course, the famous Hungarian wine should not be missing. On the other hand, products from large multinationals such as Nestlé or Coca Cola are expressly NOT offered. The meat used comes from pigs, cattle and sheep from old pet breeds and from nomadic steppe farming. Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free possible on request
