Hotel Maier

Friedrichshafen, Lake Constance, Germany

Hosts Sandra and Hendrik Fennel affectionately call the Hotel Maier the "urban country hotel" because it combines the best of city and country in a charming way.

From the panoramic rooms, guests can enjoy a breathtaking view over Lake Constance, while other rooms offer an idyllic view of local gardens or the charming patio. The hotel offers something for every taste: classic, modern and avant-garde.

Fischbach, the town where the hotel is located, is located at the top of Lake Constance, in a perfect location for those who like to be active. From here you can reach almost any destination around Lake Constance within an hour, be it in Germany, Austria, Switzerland or Liechtenstein.

The hotel has existed since 1936, originally opened as a café with five guest rooms and now run by the fourth generation of the family. Culinary arts have always been a central element, and up until the third generation, the "bosses" themselves were in the kitchen. Sandra and Hendrik took over the hotel ten years ago and are leading it into the future with a mixture of tradition and innovation. After many years working in the best and most innovative hotels in the German hospitality industry, the two wanted to create a hotel that they themselves would like to travel to. Lake Constance, with its cultural, scenic and culinary diversity, was the perfect place for this.

The hotel also has a large restaurant with various rooms, light-filled event rooms as well as small and cozy corners inside and outside.

Sustainable

ArchitectureThe hotel consists of various parts of the building, which date from different decades. The last major renovation, which included the courtyard house, the terrace and the event area, defined the future direction of the hotel. A textile facade, which not only sets standards in terms of design, but also combines energetic, historical and social components, is a central element. Most of the furniture in the house comes from German manufacturers, and all of the craftsmen who were hired for the renovation come from the region. The design of the hotel takes the influencing factors of the location into account, creating a unique and clear positioning.

FoodThe in-house restaurant "Die Speiserei" impresses with a sustainable and extremely tasty concept and is one of the best restaurants in the region according to relevant gastronomy guides. The strategy is sustainability crossover: local, organic and Slow Food ark products. There is also a wonderful herb garden and the hosts use the rich resources of the area for wild picking. They collect woodruff, rose petals, fir tips, medlars and currant wood, among other things, from which they make aromatic oils, for example. There are also many other unusual ingredients that make the dishes unique. At the Hotel Maier, practically everything is made in-house and the menu changes regularly in order to always be able to offer fresh and innovative culinary experiences. The hosts are particularly proud of their seasonally changing menus, which reflect the diversity and abundance of each season.

The Hotel Maier offers its employees a comprehensive care package, some of which can be viewed on the website. This includes above-standard vacation and pay as well as additional vacation days for community-oriented commitment. The core of the hotel's employer brand is to create an exciting, innovative, beautiful and meaningful workplace. The team is known for its friendliness and generosity. In addition, the Hotel Maier is the ultimate club restaurant for currently eight service clubs, including Round Table, Rotary, Zonta and Soroptimists. These clubs find particularly generous conditions in the hotel and an ideal location for their activities. In return, the Hotel Maier supports individual projects of the clubs, creating a mutually enriching partnership.

EnvironmentAll processes are regularly checked on a small scale to ensure they make sense, with the aim of reducing impacts as much as possible. With the construction of the courtyard house, the energy efficiency of the entire building was significantly improved. This was achieved through optimal utilization of the combined heat and power plants and structural process support in accordance with the criteria of the German Sustainable Building Council. A major energy advance is still to come: photovoltaics and geothermal energy are to be used in the renovation of the original part of the building in order to take a significant step towards energy neutrality, supported by measures such as heat recovery. Regional climate projects are also being promoted via the Bodensee-Oberschwaben citizen card in order to support a local economic cycle. There is also a partnership with RadbwEGT and other initiatives.

Well-BeingThere is a sauna, a roof terrace for relaxation and a small massage offer.
