Familien-Landhotel Stern

Obsteig am Sonnenplateau, Tyrol, Austria

The Hotel Stern, run by the Föger family for over 100 years and now in the fourth generation, is definitely not an old Tyrolean inn among many. Because something succeeds here that should be the norm as soon as possible, but unfortunately it is far from being.

Guests in the Stern use an average of only 7.59 kg CO2 per night, which means an energy efficiency class of A +++! And every guest can help to reduce their own ecological footprint even further by trying to integrate the host family's centuries-old attitude during their stay and gladly beyond: "I look after you. You look after me."

That means taking responsibility for the surrounding nature, people and all resources. If that means giving up familiar but environmentally unfriendly comforts, then at least the family hotel Stern will do everything to make it easier for guests. Every day there is a particularly delicious menu that is 100% regional, from recipes to ingredients.

Rental bikes including child trailers and seats are available free of charge. The ski bus, the regional bus and many other means of transport are also free of charge for guests. Apart from that, everything is on site, where do you have to go when you are finally here?

Mountains, fresh air, beautiful views and an extremely family-friendly hotel with a huge range of beautiful and exciting back-to-nature ideas or getting-to-know-what-in-nature-everything-goes-offers for little ones and big. Going on vacation at the Hotel Stern, it's so cozy, you can also snore in the hay, go to the garden with family and friends and have a really good night's sleep.

ArchitectureSuch an old inn, of course, had to be renovated and modernized one time or another over the centuries. In the meantime you can still see quite well that it is a beautiful old traditional farm, but also that new elements have been carefully and harmoniously added. This is particularly well reflected in the use of different regional types of wood. First of all the larch wood. This tree is characteristic for the entire area and so here in the Hotel Stern, where most of the furnishings are made of it and there is also larch soap and larch schnapps to enjoy. There are also rooms made from different types of fruit and a room with recycled elements. All solid wood, everything built by local craftsmen from local materials. It is very cozy.

FoodWith over 100 years of family experience in the restaurant business, a whole lot of "specialties of the house" naturally comes together. Such as the apple strudel based on Grandma Adele's recipe, which every guest should definitely have tried. And not only are the recipes regional at Stern, but the majority of the products come as directly as possible from the neighborhood. Because you know the people who produce the food and can convince yourself of the appreciation with which they do it.

The working atmosphere in the Stern also works according to the family motto: "I look after you. You look after me!" The cooperation is friendly, there is a 5-day week, training opportunities and regular excursions together. The Hotel Stern also supports the development of the region and the integration of refugees.

EnvironmentAt Stern in Tirol there is no joking when it comes to environmental awareness. This is about hard facts and figures. Anyone arriving without a car will get a discount. And with the climate game, for example, guests can earn environmental stars who always take the stairs instead of the elevator, drink tap water instead of cola and the like, forego daily room service and change of linen and prefer to shower rather than bathe. Even those who go cross-country skiing instead of alpine skiing and go on excursions by public transport or with rental bikes get sustainability stars in a very personal climate game, in which the many small and large opportunities that each individual can use become clear protect the climate by reducing personal CO2 emissions. Apart from that, the hotel is one of the few climate-neutral hotels in all of Austria thanks to local heating with wood chips, central heating, ventilation and cooling with heat recovery and sustainable management in all areas. To compensate for the ecological footprint that still exists, an international and a regional climate protection project are supported.

Well-BeingThe hotel's sauna and relaxation area is on the top floor. From here you have an overwhelming view of the surrounding mountains while relaxing and detoxifying. Massage or a Shiatsu treatment can be booked on request. Another very beneficial offer, however, is to spend the night in a hay bed. And then the star has a few so-called “Kraftplatzln” up its sleeve, about which nothing is written, but whose location and secret are only revealed to guests who are in need of initiation on site.
