Nestled in the larch forest and with a fabulous view of the highest mountain in the Rätikon, you immediately feel safe and close to nature in the Waldchalets Brandnertal.
Susanne and Hannes live here with their two children and dog Idefix. The five chalets opened in 2020. The interiors are made of solid spruce wood and were custom-made by a local carpenter. They create a warm atmosphere, yet are both modern and minimalist. The large, south-facing panoramic windows ensure the rooms are pleasantly bright year-round. The bedrooms, in turn, are wonderfully cozy with views of the forest. Squirrels and great spotted woodpeckers are not uncommon outside. Below the new chalets is the renovated Älmele Lodge. The family's former home is somewhat more rustic in style, with its own terrace and small garden.
The fully equipped kitchens invite you to cook together – especially since the in-house "supermarket" offers a wealth of delicacies. The "Speis" (food store) offers dairy products, pasta, homemade jams, fresh eggs, coffee, and basically anything your heart desires. The family runs the "Spezerei" (specialty store) in the village, selling only regional products from dedicated producers. Their love for the region is reflected in everything they do – the humorous warmth and strong connection to nature is comforting and contagious. You immediately feel very welcome in the Brandnertal, which becomes something like a second home for a few days.

ArchitectureAward-winning architect Andreas Mikula is a good friend of the family and, after building the family home, developed the concept for the forest chalets together with the owners. Local companies used regional timber to create the guesthouses, which were intended to be both modern and alpine. The design language was intended to reflect modern Vorarlberg timber architecture, such as the typical pitched roof.
FoodAll houses have a list of restaurant recommendations and good local shopping options. The in-house shop sells dairy products, pasta, homemade jams, fresh eggs, coffee, and much more.
Alongside Susanne and Hannes, Pasang, who comes from Nepal and, like her uncle, now lives in Brand, has been working at the company for three years. Every year at Christmas and Easter, money is collected to support the Tischlein-Deck-Dich initiative, which distributes food to those in need.
EnvironmentCertified green electricity supplies the chalets, and photovoltaic systems generate part of the electricity themselves. Guests are involved in sustainability measures and encouraged to only receive fresh linens (including weekly towel and bed linen changes), to drink tap water, and to separate their waste. Other measures such as energy-saving LED lighting, low-temperature wall heating, and organic cleaning products ensure a sustainable vacation. The shop also sells excellent organic and natural cosmetics.
