vigilius mountain resort

Lana, South Tyrol, Italy

Do you want to go to 7th heaven? You have to take the cable car. The departure point in the valley would be Lana in South Tyrol. At the top of 1500 meters: silence. Heart and soul find peace, the lungs refreshed by the clear, fresh mountain air, the eyes grazed on sky blue and lime green. Your toes tickled with well-tended lawns, and the hedonistic spirit and palate of architectural elegance, luxurious furnishings and gourmet cuisine also lifted up on cloud number seven.

Ulrich Ladurner from Merano has been drawn to the mountain summit on the Vigiljoch since he was a child. At that time there was already the "Berghotel Vigiljoch" built in 1912 up there. When this was up for sale, the moment had come for Ladurner to make his childhood dream come true. He wanted to build a house up here as a retreat from everyday life. But something special. That can correspond to this unique place and fits into the beautiful nature without disturbing. Ecologically and visually.

The vigilius mountain resort with its panorama spa, the rooms with a view of the forest and the Dolomites and the two restaurants has been open to guests since 2003. Sink in heaven, on the mountain, in nature - luxury edition.

Sustainable

ArchitectureInside you almost feel as if you were outside: Because nature shines in through the many windows and you are also surrounded in the rooms by nothing but natural materials, larch wood, natural stone and clay walls. And outside, the man-made building blends in so well with the landscape because it hugs the hilltop like a large tree trunk, is almost entirely made of wood and is surrounded by so many plants and greened that sometimes you hardly notice where nature is ends and where architecture begins - or vice versa. This is exactly what the architect Matteo Thun was striving for when he designed the vigilius with the claim "Eco, not Ego". He wanted to achieve an overall concept of mountain, nature and hotel that looks just as harmonious and is built and managed as sustainably as it is now.

FoodAt vigilius, Chef de Cuisine Filippo Zoncato controls and rules with his particular weakness for vegetables and herbs. Mainly products that come from the immediate region are prepared here, more and more from selected small businesses and farms from the surrounding valleys and less and less from wholesalers. There is a large selection of vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free dishes. The vigilius mountain resort houses two different restaurants under its roofs. In the restaurant 1500 you can enjoy international cuisine and the rich breakfast buffet is set up here in the morning. In the parlor ida, guests sit by the 100-year-old tiled stove that warmed the old mountain hotel and can choose between traditional or modern South Tyrolean dishes and in the afternoon enjoy homemade cakes and pies on the terrace with a panoramic view.

People from all over the world work in the vigilius mountain resort, but above all it offers jobs for people from the immediate vicinity. For mountain farmers from the immediate vicinity, the need for wood chips to run the hotel is a safe sideline, and smallholders from the surrounding valleys deliver their products to the hotel's kitchen as part of a very personal collaboration. Events such as an open house take place at the vigilius at regular intervals.

EnvironmentIdeal insulation, timber construction and clay walls, heating with biomass directly from the mountain including combustion optimization and monitoring as well as effective flue gas filtration for very low pollutant emissions - all of this makes the vigilius a class A climate house. The employees are extensively trained on sustainability issues such as consistent waste separation the guests are also made aware of this. The vigilius mountain resort is a member of EarthCheck. In this program, eight different areas, including water and energy consumption, waste management, use of cleaning and hygiene products and commitment to the local population, are regularly checked and optimized in order to achieve set sustainability goals.

Well-BeingHere you bathe in the purest mineral water. Whether in the endless pool with a view of the Dolomites, in the whirlpool or in the open air and in your own bathtub in your room. The mineral spring water flows through all the pipes in the vigilius mountain resort and is sold in bottles as "Merano mineral water" down in the valley. In addition to bathing options, the vigilius mountain spa also offers a sauna and steam bath and a wide range of health treatments from South Tyrolean hay and herbal baths to Ayurvedic massages. If you want, you can consult the in-house personal trainer and take part in the free sports program. Otherwise, the fitness room here is the surrounding nature, which is ideal for walking, hiking, walking and in winter for snowshoeing, sledding and skiing.

Testimonials

Accessible only via private cable car, Vigilius Mountain Resort is a magical floating world of light-filled wood-and-glass buildings, arranged along a mountain ridge. Everything about the property reflects its designer’s commitment to renewable resources: It is car-free; the heating system uses wood chips provided by mountain farmers; and local springs are the source of excellent drinking water.
