From spring to late autumn, the guests of the tiny houses "Fiechtehüsli" can see a blooming natural flower meadow with numerous insects and butterflies. Each of the Tiny Houses has its own wooden terrace where guests can have their breakfast after waking up in the morning sun. In winter, the terrace and the meadow are covered with a blanket of snow.
Living and sleeping in a tiny house is a unique experience. Although the space is small, guests do not miss any comfort: there is a private bathroom and a well-equipped kitchen, at the same time the Tiny Houses offer a lot of privacy. The essence of the Tiny House lies in the reduction to the essentials - come to rest without a lot of luggage and furniture. The Tiny Houses are practically furnished with everything you need for a pleasant stay. Each of the four "Fiechtehüsli" has a different color concept: ANNA comes in orange, BERTHA uses a light green tone, CLARA is designed in red and DORA in violet. All Tiny Houses are built of spruce wood both inside and out. The wood creates a bright and cozy atmosphere. The decoration was selected according to the respective color concept and with a lot of passion and attention to detail.
Christine and Paul Mumenthaler are the hosts of the four Tiny Houses in the Swiss Emmental-Oberaargau, with Christine taking care of the guests. In 2019 they had the first two and a year later two more tiny houses built on the neighboring property. There used to be an apartment building there that burned down in 2015. After the fire, they were able to buy the developed building land. The idea of the tiny houses came from her daughter, who was studying tourism at the time. Christine and Paul shared a passion for tiny houses and decided in 2018 to build on the property and offer the experience to guests.
ArchitectureLocal spruce wood (for inside and outside) was used to build the Fiechtehüsli, which was processed in a local sawmill. Where possible, regional and local materials have been used. Only tradespeople from the immediate vicinity worked on the Fiechtehüsli: from architects, joiners/carpenters, electricians, plumbers, floor layers to gardeners.
The property is family run. The hosts were able to create a part-time job for their neighbor, who is very grateful and appreciates the short commute to work. She helps with cleaning the Fiechtehüsli and stands in for the hosts when they are absent.
EnvironmentEach Tiny House has a separate heat pump (for heating and cooling). Each Hüsli is equipped with a heat pump boiler. Recycling plays a major role: there is a separate recycling bag for the disposal of glass, PET, aluminium, cardboard, newspapers and coffee capsules. The hosts take care of proper disposal themselves. Leftover vegetables and fruit are composted.
