Taxhof

Bruck a/d Glstr., Salzburg (state), Austria

So close to heaven - it's like living up on the mountain, where the Unterberger family has lived and managed the Taxhof ancestral farm for over 300 years without interruption. In the last three decades it has been expanded from a simple mountain farm with a snack bar to a hostel with award-winning architecture.

The good thing about it: the original and family atmosphere of the place have not detracted from modern extensions and architectural fantasies. Holidays at the Taxhof are still immersing yourself in times gone by in the midst of original, unspoiled nature. Because for almost 500 years, the Taxhof has been up here at 1020 meters above sea level in a secluded location in the middle of the mountains of the Hohe Tauern and from afar you can only see meadows, forests, mountains and valleys.

This luxury was then expressly integrated in the construction of newer apartments. In the attic you sit by the huge window panes seemingly right next to the mountains and lie in bed under the starry night sky. The tree house, itself made entirely of wood, is surrounded by thick maple trunks and branches, as befits a tree house. However, you are of course staying dry here.

The various accommodations are all designed with lots of wood and natural materials, and furnished with a nice mix of old and new furniture. In addition to farming, the Unterberger family now also lovingly and stylishly looks after their guests. At breakfast and dinner, which takes place once a week, products from the farm's own farm or from neighboring farmers are used to a large extent. The delicacies are then served in the rustic old farmhouse parlors or on the terrace with a breathtaking but appetizing view.

By the way, we also presented this accommodation at Five Places in Winter . You can find the hosts’ favorite recipe in the kitchen whisper .

Sustainable

ArchitectureThe Taxhof was first mentioned in writing almost 500 years ago. The old buildings made of traditionally light plastered masonry and dark woodwork are still standing up here on the mountain, decorated with flowers as you would imagine. But in the last 10 years, a lot has happened architecturally up here. An attic was converted into a half-glass apartment, an old grain house from 1675 was converted into a cozy retreat and a few old hay barns were gradually interlocked up the slope to form the "Heustodl Apartment", which was awarded the Rosenheimer Holzbaupreis and the AIT Award in 2012 . The latest baby is the tree house, which, with its modern design and the use of only natural materials, integrates harmoniously into the surrounding landscape. Local wood and stone as well as regional loden and linen fabrics and ceramics are used on the Taxhof. The Unterberger family attaches great importance to working with regional companies.

Food"Oafoch, ehrlich und guat" is what they cook at the Taxhof, which is supplied with drinking water from its own spring. Fresh, regional and seasonal, as is customary on a farm where there is no supermarket around the corner. A large part of the products used come from the farm's own farm and from the farm's own chickens, lambs and cattle. In addition, there are of course homemade jams, juices, honey and schnapps. Everything that is not produced by the farm comes from the local region, and the cooking is done without much "skiing" but with joy. The Unterbergers know: You can taste it.
Breakfast is served every day, dinner not always, but according to plan. Dinner consists of a multi-course menu. This is accompanied by liquid delicacies from the Felsenkeller. Vegetarians are also catered for. Vegan dishes on request and for an extra charge.
On days when no dinner is offered, it is possible to have a snack put together in the enjoyment basket, which you can then warm up in your own flat.

That's what you call sustainability: some employees have been working at the Taxhof for more than 20 years and are therefore already practically part of the family.

EnvironmentThere is an own spring that supplies the Taxhof with water. The firewood comes from the farm's own organic farm (traditional resource and environmentally friendly farming).

Well-BeingEach of the modern apartments has its own small sauna. A massage can also be booked on request. If you also want to enjoy a really extensive SPA visit, as a guest of the Taxhof you get reduced admission to the Tauern Spa in Zell am See-Kaprun without waiting.

Testimonials

Was sich dahinter verbirgt?
