Ses Sucreres

Menorca, Balearic Islands, Spain

The Ses Sucreres is nestled in the authentic Menorcan countryside and the historic neighborhood of the rural town of Ferreries. One looks out over the green garden oasis in the inner courtyard and is surrounded by chirping birds and the typical regional limestone Marès.

The house was built in the early 19th century and in 2009 the hosts opened it as one of the first boutique hotels in Menorca. The renovation was carried out with a special eye for the architectural beauty and authenticity of the building, which reflects the character of Menorca. Contrasts were deliberately set between the simple and rural exterior and the chic, fresh and elegant refinement on the inside.

Ses Sucreres exudes this sense of beauty - a combination of original elements, art, handicrafts and a minimalist, contemporary and personal touch. A stay is accompanied by the sensitive, very personal and professional service. The hosts want to show Menorca from a different perspective, they are always available for discussions and answer questions about the past and future of Menorca, about the origin of the furniture and about themselves, and all in an eclectic and empathic environment. Because hospitality is always the focus.

Ses Sucreres is a certi fi ed partner of the "Menorca Biosphere Reserve", which has proudly committed itself to a sustainable model. Cellulose, wood), aerothermal green energies and regional, seasonal breakfast ingredients from local retailers.

Sustainable

ArchitectureThe hosts: Inside emphasize the architectural uniqueness of the place with an inspiring decoration that is based not only on the tangible visual elements, but also on the intangible. Elements of the past are combined with a modern, stylish touch, using natural building materials such as natural paints, cellulose, wood and cork for insulation (thermal and acoustic) and ef fi cient and minimal energy consumption. The following were used: The Marès Calcarean stone, local plants and recycled roof tiles, but also recycled vintage or Nordic furniture from all over Europe, which the hosts collected on their travels. The accommodation incorporates elements of Fengshui that emphasize the beauty of the old and the new.

FoodOut of respect for the land, nature, the farmers, the guests and the hosts themselves, the food comes from organic, healthy and circular ecosystems. For this, the food is obtained directly from the local community, so that "0 km procurement" is possible. The accommodation offers breakfast in the form of a buffet. The ingredients for this are selected seasonally, plus types of milk, jams, cereals and some Menorcan specialties such as cheese, sausages and local pastries. The hosts make an active effort to offer old recipes, such as those from the time of Arab rule, for breakfast.

The employees enjoy various discounts, share in the profits and can visit the accommodation free of charge. A training program and coaching are also available to them. Flexible working hours make working pleasant. Employees receive discounts for cultural events such as the Claustre music festival or a visit to the “Fundación Morillas” foundation, which is dedicated to preserving the Menorcan coastline. The hosts support cultural and environmentally conscious projects. Including a 30 minute film that they sponsored to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Ses Sucreres, based on the origins, memories, local environmental elements, humanity and the evolution of Ses Sucreres.

EnvironmentWhen it comes to the environment, the hosts follow a holistic approach that uncompromisingly demands the preservation of the island. The accommodation is certi fi ed with the “Reserve of the Biosphere” seal. Various measures are being implemented that promote gentle tourism and at the same time are not harmful to the climate. The accommodation is equipped with solar panels, the garbage is recycled, and there is no plastic. The accommodation is heated by means of green heating pumps. The cleaning agents are biodegradable and recycled containers are used. Care is taken to use water carefully. Free osmosis water is available to guests. Make-up removal pads are made from old towels.
