The view from the Glottertal Castle Mill looks on the one hand to the Glotter River babbling past and the adjacent forest, and on the other hand across the Glotter Valley to the vineyards and Black Forest hills opposite.
The combination of historical building structure and the progressive lean luxury hotel concept, combined with very personal service, is what makes the Schlossmühle so special. The historic house, which tells a story spanning more than 900 years, was reopened as a lean luxury boutique hotel after a 1.5-year renovation in accordance with the monument protection regulations. The hosts, who have owned the property for four generations, had the goal of preserving the house's special history and opening it up to future guests with a contemporary hotel concept. The surrounding area offers endless possibilities for inspiring holiday experiences, while the house offers a minimalist but high-quality concept under the motto "get away. stay. inspired".
Each of the rooms is characterized by an individual color concept, inspired by the old lattice windows of the guest house. The furniture comes from regional design labels and manufacturers, which ensures an authentic and at the same time modern style without unnecessary kitsch. While the rooms in the "old new building" impress with generous glass fronts and terrace access, the rooms in the traditional half-timbered house impress with historic beams and picturesque lattice windows.

ArchitectureBoth the listed half-timbered house and the hotel extension from 1983 were extensively renovated between 2022 and 2023, taking energy aspects into account, and integrated into the new hotel concept. The hotel extension was added using timber construction to minimize space consumption. The former guest house with 12 rooms was transformed into a hotel with 25 rooms and a new SPA area. The renovation work was carried out in cooperation with local craft businesses, with particular emphasis on the use of local materials. The partial extension and the construction of the SPA area were also carried out using timber construction. The planning of these construction measures was carried out by the local office sutter3, which specializes in the restoration of historic monuments.
FoodThe breakfast offer includes a small buffet with fresh farmhouse bread and various spreads. Daily changing breakfast dishes and individual egg specialties can be ordered á la carte. There are also a variety of vegan, vegetarian and non-vegetarian options, with care being taken to cater to every dietary style. Most of the products come from local farmers.
The house is run exclusively by a team of employees who live in Glottertal or the surrounding communities. The reorientation aims to create jobs that offer family-friendly working hours, competitive salaries and appropriate leisure time in return. The hosts are currently also supporting the regional club culture through sponsoring memberships and donations to organizations such as the German Red Cross and local music clubs.
EnvironmentThe lean luxury approach is consistently implemented by reducing the offer to the essentials, but with the highest quality. This saves resources in terms of furniture, guest equipment, energy consumption (for example with a single, but particularly beautiful sauna) and food. The heat source is regional wood pellets. Conscious use of towels is advised. In addition, all guests are provided with a free public transport ticket for the entire region. The possibility of arriving without a car is pointed out and the hosts are happy to organize the journey, for example from the ICE train station in Freiburg.
Well-BeingThere is a small spa area with a spacious Finnish sauna. Adjacent to it is the outdoor terrace directly next to the Glotter river, with an outdoor shower and particularly clear air thanks to the adjacent forest.
