Schloss Hirschgarten

Borken-Nassenerfurth, Hesse, Germany

Hirschgarten Palace is a place of quiet and work, surrounded by a courtyard, old walls and a moat. The approximately 60 different medicinal plants that grow on the premises and are processed in the castle determine the generously protected atmosphere.

A small community lives at the castle and has been running the Bioland-certified herb nursery since 2018. They love the simple, self-sufficient life and invite guests to take inspiration from this place. For hosts Bettina Hauenschild and Otto Kukla, Northern Hesse is a fairytale land that makes the magic of the place in and around the castle come alive. They recommend that guests visit the herb show garden and explore the unique, nature-protected Lake Borken.

The moated castle was first mentioned in a document in 1332. Parts of the building were added, removed or rebuilt up until the 18th century. The castle consists of a main building, which houses a library and the castle kitchen in addition to private rooms, an adjacent half-timbered wing that houses the castle café, among other things, and the Schweizerhaus, which houses the bed and breakfast. The rooms in it are different, designed with old and antique furniture.

Sustainable

ArchitectureThe ancient walls of the castle, which were extensively ecologically restored in the 1990s using historical building materials, stand for the special architecture of the castle. Not only wooden windows were used, but also historical recipes for the clay plaster were used.

FoodThe ingredients of the served breakfast either come from the hotel's own garden or are bought in organic quality from neighboring farms. The own chickens provide the eggs for this. On Sundays there are homemade cakes, some of which are vegan, and other homemade delicacies in the castle café. The Habermus based on Hildegard von Bingen and the vegan "Lebenswurst" based on the cookbook of the chateau lady Bettina Hauenschild are particularly popular with guests.

The employees of the B&B are allowed to use all the facilities of the castle, including the sauna, the meditation and the massage room. You will also receive affordable accommodation and the team will eat together. The hosts support several associations (Homeberger, Landrosinen Kulturnetzwerk and the SoLaWi) with financial donations.

EnvironmentEcologically degradable detergent is used in the lock. Cleaning is mainly done with vinegar essence. As an organic farm, we pay attention to correct waste separation and avoidance, and we have our own composting facility. The nursery is Bioland-certified and the accommodation is self-sufficient and is a member of the neighboring solidarity agriculture (SoLaWi).

Well-BeingAt Schloss Hirschgarten, guests can enjoy massages, naturopathic advice, and yoga classes. In addition, herbal tours, herbal seminars "herb school" and various seminars are offered.
