Re:hof Rutenberg

Lychen, Brandenburg, Germany

The Neue Re:hof is a place to breathe deeply. Here, everyday life melts away. Enjoy a sauna in the garden, a book in the hammock, or a long cross-country walk.

The New Re:hof isn't a hotel. It's a place you return to again and again. Loft-like apartments in old walls. Garden houses – simple and beautiful – that blend with nature. Open spaces for play and exploration. A sauna that provides warmth, a garden for sowing and harvesting, a self-service farm shop with organic products. The New Re:hof is a retreat where you can reflect on what's essential, recharge your batteries, and create something new together.

More than a decade ago, Marieken and Martin, a Dutch artist couple, built the Re:hof with creativity and passion. From the ruins of an old vicarage, they transformed a sustainable holiday village that offers a retreat for city dwellers. Now, the age-related generational change is imminent. But instead of selling the farm, Martin Hansen and Marieken Verheyen opted for a future as a cooperative. The Re:hof will thus remain in the hands of those who love and cherish it. Together, they preserve what makes the Re:hof special: simplicity, spaciousness, tranquility. And yet, new things grow – with ideas, encounters, and stories.

Anyone who comes here immediately senses that this is more than just a vacation. And while the community around the farm grows, this refuge continues to be open to guests, offering a very special juxtaposition of retreat and togetherness.

Architecture

Building and living with nature. With consideration for what is already there. So simple. So consistent. The New Re:hof remains true to what made it so popular: clear architecture, natural materials, and gentle interventions. No excess of luxury, but beauty in simplicity. Built between 1870 and 1890, the rectory, a classic three-sided courtyard, was partially used as a summer children's camp in the 1970s in the GDR, before Marieken and Martin took over the now very neglected courtyard with the goal of creating a vacation spot that met the aesthetic demands of a metropolitan audience. During the renovation, many natural materials such as wood and clay, as well as materials that are ecologically sound, were used, and waste was avoided wherever possible. The apartments are minimalist and modern, spacious, and wonderfully light-filled thanks to the many windows. The furnishings are simple but tasteful, lending the rooms a warm atmosphere. Each apartment has its own unique details. The garden houses by architect Peter Grundmann are something very special: functional in structure, the wooden cubes allow a view of the surrounding nature through panoramic windows.

Food

In the small farm shop, you can find many delicious things that you can't get at the local supermarket. For a good breakfast, you can get fresh rolls daily and eggs from local farmers, as well as homemade jams, juices, muesli, and gluten-free products.

Sustainability also means sharing responsibility. As part of vielleben eG, the Neue Re:hof belongs not to individuals, but to a growing community – still managed by the on-site team and enjoyed by members and guests alike. This creates a lasting future. And you, in turn, can become part of it. An extraordinary project that offers a real alternative to owning your own cottage in the countryside. As a member of the cooperative, you become a co-owner and ensure that this special place is preserved for the long term – for you, for others, and for the Uckermark region.

Environment

The New Re:hof offers a retreat into nature, allowing visitors to experience how pleasant and sustainable a lifestyle can be. During construction and operation, attention is paid to ecological aspects, including the recyclability of materials, waste reduction, natural ingredients, sun-facing construction, energy-saving construction methods, and energy generation. Wastewater is channeled through a plant-based purification bed, where it is converted into freshwater. This is used to water the plants. Solar panels heat the shower water. Composting toilets have been installed in the garden sheds. The Re: in the Re:hof also stands for recycling.

Well-Being

The New Re:hof is a place of retreat, a place to reflect on what's essential and recharge. And a place of community, because being and doing things with others is just as important for well-being. A special place for relaxation is the sauna, located in the center of the grounds beneath one of the large oak trees. The complex consists of three buildings: the changing room and shower room, the relaxation room, and the sweat lodge. Here, modern architecture meets wood-burning stoves and traditional adobe construction. The large glass front offers a meditative view of the old, gnarled fruit trees. And the day can end around the campfire, enjoying inspiring conversation with others or gazing out at the far-off sunset.

Testimonials

Inspirierend.
