Rather simple and spartan from the outside, the Landhotel Rainhof reveals its perfectly shaped cosiness on the inside, which promises relaxation and deceleration for visitors. All rooms are individually decorated, no trace of mass production. From the rooms facing the garden, guests have a beautiful view of the countryside. From the Rainhof Suite you look into an old gnarled tree that has been looking at the history of the hotel for a very long time.
The main building of the hotel, a former barn, was first mentioned in documents around 1600. And in the walls of the barn you can find stones from the Celtic Wall (Tarodunum) that were installed. The operators wanted to preserve this gem and bring it back to life. In 2016, the operators opened the first nature park market barn in the southern Black Forest, where the products of many local manufacturers are sold with home accessories in addition to the bookstore.
A special highlight is the wellness area in the attic of the house. In the sauna area there is a sauna with a light gable, a steam bath, a wooden tub and various showers. The loft-like rooms with lots of wood invite you to linger. The view from the loungers through the Black Forest panorama window is particularly wonderful. Here you can really relax. In winter you can spend many cozy hours in front of the fireplace.
The adjoining restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner from regional products. A classic is the rump steak from the Dreisamtäler Weiderind with homemade spaetzle and seasonal vegetables.
In the Rainhof you live at the foot of the Black Forest, in the middle of the beautiful Dreisamtal, which offers many wonderful hiking and cycling trails for active people. Gourmets get their money's worth at wine tastings in the Kaiserstuhl. The well-known Titisee, the beautiful city of Freiburg, the Feldberg or the Europa-Park are also within easy reach. The hotel is ideally located for a day trip to Switzerland or France.

ArchitectureThe hotel was integrated into a former barn, the main building of which was first documented around 1600. Since the building is a listed building, it was renovated very carefully, and a lot of stylistic elements could be preserved. The conversion and expansion was carried out exclusively with local craftsmen. The barn, which looks rather spartan from the outside, surprises with its spacious interior, such as unplastered walls with Kartell Ghost chairs. All rooms are individually designed, from puristic design, down to earth to playful, everything is included. The operators clearly want visitors to be curious about what it looks like behind the next door.
FoodIn the certified nature park restaurant belonging to the Rainhof Hotel, top quality and landscape maintenance with a knife and fork are very important. Wherever possible, products from the region are processed to optimally support them. All pasta are made in-house, as are all sauces and side dishes. Frozen products only appear on the table when the guest explicitly requests it or when it is not possible to do otherwise due to the transport route (such as salmon and other non-regional fish). Ready meals or powder are completely taboo in the kitchen. Three to four main vegetarian dishes are always on the menu as standard, vegan dishes are prepared à la minute on request.
The hotel operators try to find apartments for employees through their diverse contacts, because the region is very scarce on the housing market. You vouch for the co-contracts, if requested by the landlord. Every year they support a children's home in Romania, which people in the village look after on a personal basis. The kindergarten and school collect toys and gifts, the hotel supports with a cake sale and goes grocery shopping with sales in the wholesale market. On top there is still a donation in kind in the form of basic food. The Rainhof Hotel has been employing refugees for several years. There are currently two refugees working in the kitchen and housekeeping and one apprentice in the restaurant.
EnvironmentEnvironmental protection and sustainability play an increasingly important role for operators. Several things were implemented intuitively at the opening. For example, old planks were used as wall cladding in the restaurant. As usual in the area, the waste is separated into paper, yellow sack, organic and residual waste. Guests staying less than three nights are asked to do without automatic linen change and new towels. Of course, the guest can always put up a sign and request a change of linen. The bathrobes are packed in paper in the closet and asked to only unpack them when they are really needed. The Rainhof Hotel has operated its own combined heat and power plant for three years. The hotel operators have deliberately avoided a pool, the classic minibar and air conditioning in the rooms as "power guzzlers". Instead of the usual mini bar, there is a small glass fridge in the hotel lounge, where guests can help themselves on a trust basis.
Well-BeingThe hotel has a spacious wellness area with a panorama of the Black Forest. The wet area consists of a sauna with a view of the countryside, a steam bath, a plunge pool and showers. The quiet zone has loungers with a view of the Black Forest and a large sofa area with an open fireplace. Treatments can be booked with a masseuse in a room in the wellness area. Since 2018, the offer has been complemented by a beautician.
