In Klughammer, an idyllic little town on Lake Caldaro in South Tyrol, there are castle ruins enthroned. Below is a guesthouse in a historic building that once belonged to the castle.
Hostess Kat grew up here and took over the guesthouse from her parents and reopened it in 2023. Together with her partner Jan, she runs the house in her very own charming and creative way. Instead of a luxury hostel, the two have created their own personal gem here. For yourself and for guests who have always dreamed of a house by the lake.
With the help of renowned designers and architects, twelve beautiful rooms were created in the "Pension Leuchtenburg". The interior skilfully combines the eventful past and the most modern hotel culture. In the rooms, the old rustic furniture has been given a new look and sets the tone (of color) for the walls and fabrics. The wooden floors provide a cozy atmosphere and warmth, new bathrooms for relaxed comfort. In addition, particular attention is paid to sustainability in all areas.
One thing is immediately clear - things are informal and uncomplicated here. Every day there is a delicious breakfast and fine dishes, which the cook Tanja always freshly prepares and Kat usually serves personally - with a lot of heart and humor. Seasonal fruit and vegetables and high-quality products from regional farmers are served, which are processed into delicious lemon risotto (an insider tip!), for example. In addition, the best wines, whose vines you can literally see. You can then enjoy the wine as you please in the wine living room with sauna, in the large garden, on the panoramic terrace or on the jetty.
If your head isn't spinning after so much romantic-authentic dolce vita and wine, you can enjoy the starry sky and then dream of the next enjoyable day at the lake. A presto a lago!

ArchitectureThe house is more than 500 years old and built in the typical style of the South Tyrolean Oberetsch. During the renovation, care was taken to preserve and reuse as much as possible and only worked with local craftsmen. Stone floors and wood are also from the region. Optimizing energy consumption was particularly important, which was a major challenge given the old building.
FoodThe food is seasonal, regional and meets the Slow Food criteria. The bread comes from the organic bakery, the vegetables from a permaculture farm and the meat from organic farmers in the region. The fish is farmed in the Passeier Valley and all dairy products are organic and from the region or, at most, Italy. In order to counteract any food waste, there is no buffet. So there is practically no food waste and if anything is left over, the rabbits and horses get it from the neighbors.
EnvironmentThe sustainability practiced here builds on old traditions. No unnecessary resources are wasted and the animal eats everything, for example. It is primarily about the appreciation and the regionality of all resources. The water comes from our own spring and is cleaned with vinegar water as in the past. All bathroom items in the room are unpackaged and made in South Tyrol.
Well-BeingThere is a large Finnish sauna in the house and a small bio sauna by the lake. In addition, yoga and meditation classes, breathing exercises and movement therapy according to Liebscher and Bracht are offered. Massages can also be booked on request. There are regular retreats, e.g. Holistic Health Retreats, Yoga Retreats, etc.
