Öko-Studio

Villarepos, Fribourg, Switzerland

As the name suggests, the Swiss Eco-Studio Friborg is built sustainably from the basement to the roof. And it is only dependent on sun and rain, as it lives without external electricity and water supply.

The guests sleep in a wooden building that is insulated with straw and plastered with clay. There is an authentic smell of wood everywhere. The guests drink filtered rainwater and the electricity comes directly from the solar system on the roof. The garden contains only native plants, a flower meadow, several hazel bushes and fir trees - different flowers bloom depending on the season. The view of the wooded hills is beautiful and calming at the same time.

Sibylle Kamber and Cédric Berberat, who completed the house in July 2015, are behind the eco-studio. Today they live in it themselves and rent a loft to guests. They wanted to build a house from materials that grow on their own doorstep and that exist completely independently. The special thing about it: With a few exceptions, the house can be composted after its lifetime. The loft has a cozy, cozy and simple, natural interior, is flooded with light and invites you to enjoy a sustainable holiday in Villarepos.

Sustainable

ArchitectureThe house is built exclusively from renewable materials such as wood, straw, clay and lime plaster. The kitchen furniture and the bed, a Hüsler nest, are made of wood and processed without glue. The kitchen table and chairs are from the second-hand shop, have been used before and have been given a second life in the eco-studio.

EnvironmentThe electricity comes from the photovoltaic system on the roof, and the house is completely independent of the grid. The water also comes from the roof by means of rainwater, just like the drinking water, which is previously treated and cleaned by two activated carbon filters. In addition, the garbage is separated and only ecological cleaning and washing agents are used. The laundry is made from 100% organic cotton. All building materials on the house are biologically sound and the kitchen and bed are made of wood and completely without glue. Sustainability is also lived outside: the garden and vegetable garden only contain native plants. The hosts are members of various environmental protection organizations and like to talk to the guests about sustainable topics, such as the construction of the house.

Testimonials
