Mühle Himmelpfort

Fürstenberg, Brandenburg, Germany

Anyone who imagines a romantic fairytale mill with a clattering mill wheel on the rushing brook is almost completely wrong. Admittedly: the stream is there, is called Mühlfliess and ripples to tomorrow's refreshment bath, for boat parties and other enjoyable activities, always cheerfully past the garden. Those who prefer still deep water for swimming or meditating on the jetty at sunrise have the choice of four lakes, just a few minutes' walk away. So far, so idyllic.

The mill buildings themselves, on the other hand, come with a very clear industrial charm. From the outside. The inside is colorful and creative. Every room different. There are many options here from apartments to single rooms, from coworking offices to various seminar rooms, meditation rooms and a large communal kitchen for cooking with friends.

In the large garden there is space for painting, sculpting, playing and sunbathing and all around the landscape extends with endless possibilities for hiking, cycling, canoeing and nature observation. A place for relaxing and active stays, a place for creative ideas and discussions. A place that inspires. Especially because of his style breaks.

Sustainable

ArchitectureThe high warehouse building from the Wilhelminian period, end of the 19th century, shapes the entire townscape of Himmelpfort. For a long time there was a children's home here, and for a long time the mill buildings were more or less empty. Tilman and Brit have arrived here in 2013 and freed old wooden floors and masonry from plasterboard and linoleum floors and renovated them with ecological materials. Clay, hemp and wood come from the region just like the artisans. A lot has been reused or reused. The result is creatively designed rooms with natural colors and wall plasters from our own production and a colorful combination of new, used and specially manufactured furniture.

The Mühle Himmelpfort now functions as a meeting point for the entire region. Exhibitions, readings and concerts take place here. There is a library that is open to anyone interested on Saturdays and the work and seminar rooms can also be rented by the hour. The operators of the mill are active in the KuNO, the Kulturnetz Nord Brandenburg eV, in which the artists and culture professionals of the Brandenburg Ruppiner Seenland network come together. The association is responsible for expanding the networking of culture, art and tourism and received the IHK Region Future Prize in 2016 to strengthen rural areas.

EnvironmentIn the Mühle Himmelpfort, guests are made aware of the subject of waste separation and avoiding food waste. Organic waste goes to its own compost, which later ends up in the vegetable patch. Electricity is generated with our own photovoltaic system. Gas comes from a cooperative. Detergents and cleaning agents are, of course, ecological and sustainable, as are office supplies and the bank.
