Monaci delle Terre Nere

Zafferana Etnea, Sizilien, Italy

Welcome to Sicily! Monaci delle Terre Nere offers the best of Italy and a little more. From the outside, the boutique hotel looks like an old palazzo, a little worn and at the same time venerable. Friends of aesthetic living find their happiness behind the thick stone walls. Exposed, heavy walls made of volcanic stone meet fine, modern furniture, wooden beam ceilings in elegant rooms and sensational: the room with the huge sliding door, which gives a view of the historic winery. The view in general: from the Monaci delle Terre Nere you have a wonderful view of Mount Etna, the vineyards and the turquoise-blue Mediterranean. In the beautifully landscaped garden you can relax by the pool or find shelter from the sun under one of the old, gnarled trees and enjoy the wonderful tranquility. On the approximately 24 hectare area you can simply breathe deeply, enjoy the green and relax your mind. There is a nice playground for children, adults can enjoy the bar with a fireplace. The food, how could it be otherwise in Sicily, is delicious. In the mornings, guests enjoy a particularly fine and nicely arranged organic breakfast buffet. In addition to fresh bread, jams, fruit and eggs, there is even ice cream. What more do you want? For lunch and dinner, which is served in the restaurant, vegetables and fruit from our own production are processed - and fine wines from the region are served. Wine tastings and cooking classes are offered regularly. The small town of Zafferana Etnea is just two kilometers away, where you can stroll nicely. Monaci delle Terre Nere is a 20-minute drive from the beach and the city of Acireale. Taormina, which is always worth a visit, is 35 km away.

Sustainable

ArchitectureThe facade of the main house of the historic winery has been largely left. The interiors have been gently renovated with natural materials from the region, partly exposing the impressive lava stone walls. Many rooms work with natural light that shines in through floor-to-ceiling windows and patio doors. Many wooden elements, including exposed ceiling beams, give the interior a natural look.

FoodThe operators of the Monaci delle Terre Nere feel deeply connected to the slow food movement. Here, food is not simply used to absorb nutrients, but to be enjoyed with all the senses and to appreciate the food. When it comes to food, attention is paid to controlled organic cultivation, much of which comes from our own or local cultivation.

EnvironmentThe operator of the Monaci delle Terre Nere takes great care to preserve the property and the nature around it. The entire company is certified organic. The hotel staff is trained to act as environmentally and resource-efficiently as possible. Only eco-materials are used for cleaning. When it comes to food, attention is paid to controlled organic cultivation, much of which comes from our own or local cultivation.
