La Joya de Cabo de Gata

Agua Amarga, Andalusia, Spain

Over the course of almost 20 years, the owner Charo has created an oasis full of cozy nooks and crannies on a hectare of land for sunbathing and relaxing between curved paths and terraces planted with local vegetation. There are also several earthy buildings full of interesting and hedonistic furnishings.

And “oasis” is meant literally here, because the desert is all around as far as the eye can see. Walking in this desert garden during the day and at night is an experience, because there is a lot to discover and a refreshing dip in the pool or a soothing bath in the whirlpool are a pleasure in the sun and under the moon and stars.

In the three different houses with one or two bedrooms, kitchen, fireplace, sofas and cozy terraces, guests can stay, read, get lost in thoughts and go on excursions to small bays on the Mediterranean Sea that can only be reached on foot. Or you can hike through the nature park. In the towns and cities around there are restaurants and shops to visit. This accommodation is really a jewel (Joya) on the Capo de Gata (Cape of the Agate) between the mountains and the sea.

Sustainable

ArchitectureBuilt by local craftsmen, the typical Andalusian country houses are perfectly adapted to the climate. They are planned so that natural light and air currents can be used to the maximum and energy can be saved. Incidentally, heating is carried out using a system of circulating warm water under the floor that was already used by the Romans. The buildings made of natural materials, with their soft shapes and earthy colors, also blend in well with the landscape, an aspect that was important to the founders of this place in order to achieve a harmonious coexistence of people and nature.

FoodOn request, a breakfast service is offered in the main house. The ingredients used are mostly organic and come mainly from the region.

In La Joya de Cabo de Gata, the personal needs and family situations of the employees and employees are taken into account. All employees live in the nearby village. The property operators work with various NGOs. They mainly support three organizations, the Vicente Ferrer Foundation in India, The House of Joy "Baan Unrak" in Thailand and the "Agua de Coco" organization in Madagascar.

EnvironmentThe one-hectare landscaped garden is irrigated with a well-designed drip irrigation system and process water. The water in the pool and whirlpool comes from its own source and is hygienically treated with mild and environmentally friendly products that do not irritate the skin and smell less of chlorine. The water feels like clear but warm mountain water. Hot water for domestic use, the pools and the underfloor heating is heated with the help of solar panels, which are built on the roofs and in other places that are not very visible. All hygiene and cleaning products are selected on the basis of natural compatibility and sustainability. Waste is strictly separated and sent for recycling. The guests are also asked to be careful in order to save energy and resources. Employees are also continuously encouraged to think and live in an environmentally conscious and sustainable manner.

Well-BeingThe Arabic-looking massage pavilion is built in the most energetically harmonious area of the facility, not far from the large walk-in yin-yang mandala. Different massage and healing treatments are offered here. For example reflexology, craniosacral, shiatsu and other treatments.
