La Donaira

Ronda, Andalusia, Spain

La Donaira in Andalusia is a 5-star resort, which is completely different from conventional luxury hotels. Here you do not feel like in a hotel during the holidays, but as part of the stylish, rural operation. During your stay here in the heart of the Grazalema Nature Park, all everyday stress is forgotten and your soul can recharge your batteries in the beautiful surroundings.

The more than 100 year old Andalusian farm house (cortijo) and its stables were carefully renovated in 2010 according to ecological criteria. They form the social center of the property, with a reception, restaurant and various lounge areas. As a guest, you have the choice between a beautifully furnished suite in the guest house or a no less beautiful yurt, where you are a little closer to nature.

Fresh flowers are everywhere; every single piece of furniture is eye-pleasing. Above the existing Cortijo, in the former pigsty, there is a health and wellness center with both indoor and outdoor pools made of natural stones, sauna and pool area, beauty and health areas. Meditation and yoga oases can be found throughout the property.

The restaurant is definitely a special attraction: the basis of the culinary delicacies that are served there are the farm's own, biodynamic foods. This also includes the multiple award-winning in-house wines. Gourmets can train in a master class for vegan or vegetarian cuisine or take part in a tasting of the company's own organic olive oils and biodynamic wines.

The entire area of La Donaira is car-free. Transport within the property is carried out with the help of farm donkeys. The resort has its own stable with around 60 horses. Riding, mountain biking, paragliding, hiking, climbing and working on the farm, which is based on the principles of permaculture, are just some of the many offers that guests can choose from, in addition to health and wellness treatments. There is an extensive program for children in summer.

Sustainable

ArchitectureAuthenticity is a fundamentally important value for the operators of La Donaira. Numerous traditional handicraft processes were used to renovate the La Donaira farmhouse, which is over a hundred years old. Local Andalusian artisans and producers contributed to their success with their knowledge, equipment and materials such as lime, hemp and stone. But also from nearby Morocco, numerous raw materials and techniques were used to take into account the influence of the eight centuries of Arab rule over the Iberian Peninsula. The accommodations of the guests are open and spacious and at the same time cozy. The dominant materials in the cortijo are organic cotton, fine leather, wood and stone. Fresh flowers from the garden add color accents to the dominant colors brown and white. For the interior, the operators of the hotel have traveled all over Europe, looking for antiques and works of art that give the cortijo a very personal and very special character.

FoodIn La Donaira everything works according to the slow food principle: all meals are prepared with 100 percent natural, unprocessed organic ingredients. We try to use local products as much as possible. The chefs are experts in the field of vegan, vegetarian and traditional Spanish gastronomy. The multicultural background of the kitchen staff brings flavors and colors from all over the world to the plate. For breakfast there is a variation of the house products and those of the neighboring farms: bread, fruits, honey, fresh herbal teas, olive oil, organic eggs from free-range chickens, cheese, milk and yoghurt.

La Donaira is proud of the mixture of local and international employees, who all have unique backgrounds and are fewer employees as part of the family and all make a great contribution to the community. The feeling of being a valued member of the community is vital to the commitment of everyone, so La Donaira's credo. Employees receive rewards, appreciation and recognition in very different ways: not only economically, but also through a culture of gratitude and positive feedback, about travel and training opportunities, time for themselves if necessary. Lifelong learning is a basic principle of the company. The operators support various local and regional projects, especially the Savory Institute at the moment, which is concerned with the conservation of pastureland.

EnvironmentThe overall concept of the resort is based on the use of renewable energy sources and the inclusion of sustainable and future-proof environmental technology. The farm has been certified as an organic farm since 2009, which means that it is farmed extensively, only organic fertilizers are used and no chemicals are used. Ecological filter systems are used to purify the water, and no chlorinated water is used. Guests have the opportunity to help planting and to learn a lot of interesting things about the concept of permaculture that is applied to La Donaira or to observe the birth of a calf, foal or lamb. Recycling goes without saying. All organic waste is composted and returned to the soil.

Well-BeingThe sight of the vineyards, the orchards, the medicinal herb garden and the greenhouse alone ensure deep relaxation. There is also a natural spring water pool in the outdoor area, a spa with an 18-meter heated indoor pool, Russian steam sauna and Turkish baths, from which you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the mountains. In the outdoor fitness room you can get in shape and let go of everyday stress with yoga. When riding through the Andalusian landscape, the body produces a lot of happiness hormones.
