Kurhaus Bergün

Bergün, Canton of Grisons, Switzerland

The Kurhaus Bergün is a unique mixture of holiday apartments and hotel rooms and is very popular with individual guests, groups and especially with families.

The creative and regional cuisine inspires just as much as the backdrop of the unique Art Nouveau house. The Kurhaus is also a partner of Parc Ela, the largest nature park in Switzerland. The park is located in a diverse landscape around the Albula, Julier and Septimer alpine passes and offers unspoilt nature, intact villages and a varied cultural program in three languages: Romanesque, Italian and German.

The imposing Art Nouveau building with its spacious architecture was planned in connection with the new Albula railway line, which went into operation in 1903, and was built in 1906. In 2002, long-standing regular guests founded the Kurhaus Bergün AG, which acquired the building including the turnaround and has been renovating it step by step since then.

Today the house trumps with a unique mix of a very family-friendly concept and an offer that hits the nerve of the times. It should stay that way for a long time, not least thanks to the design of a small spa area with sauna and whirlpool.

Sustainable

ArchitectureVery authentic Art Nouveau house that invites you on a journey through time. It has been renovated in stages over the past twenty years. Here, emphasis was placed on the choice of materials and colors. Whenever possible, local suppliers and regional materials were taken into account in the construction and renovation. All decisions were checked for sustainability and questioned. No plastic should be used, only wood from the region should be used and genuine, valuable craftsmanship should be used.

FoodThe Kurhaus is happy and proud to be able to draw on a colorful range of excellent (organic) products in the entire Bergün / Filisur / Albula Valley / Parc Ela region. Most of the time, whole animals are bought directly from the farmers and used by “nose to tail”. Of course there are also various vegetarian dishes and vegan cooking is available on request. The ketogenic kitchen doesn't embarrass anyone here either. The kitchen is young, honest and alpine and captivates with a view over the horizon. Cooking is, of course, fresh, seasonal and whenever possible with a direct connection to Bergün and the region: just really «fine!» The dishes are refined with herbs from our own raised beds and great importance is attached to organic production when purchasing the food. In winter, chef Markus Frank invites you to the table d'hôte in the old kitchen on Fridays and creates a 5-course menu from the products of the Bergüner farm shops. By the way, his recommendation is: Roulade from Bergüner organic beef filled with wild mushrooms and apricots, on a strong Malans Pinot Noir sauce with GranAlpin tagliatelle and local chard.

The Kurhaus Bergün offers a familiar and appreciative work environment. Employees benefit from various fringe benefits, exciting employee events throughout the year and various attractive accommodation options. They also have the opportunity to work part-time and are paid above the statutory requirements. The Kurhaus supports social projects with the purchase of fair trade products (Choba-Choba chocolate) and sponsorship, and is actively involved in integration projects for learners (including attestation training), the promotion of village culture (e.g. old-age afternoons) as well as Culture in the village (theater, concerts) and makes various invitations to schools and clubs with a children's program (eg spaghetti dinner on the occasion of the "Chalanda Marz" custom)

EnvironmentSustainability is a very central topic and anchored in the mission statement as well as in the strategy and in the daily work. The house is certified with the IBEX fairstay Silver label. The heating in the historic house is linked to the reservation system thanks to the latest control. There are two large-scale PV systems on the roofs. And an energy mix of pellets, oil and heat recovery from the cooling system ensures heat generation. The new employee duplex is heated by means of a heat exchanger (spring water). The new pond in the Kurhauspark was also created by the source renovation and the diversion of the water. The parking fee serves to feed environmental funds, which in turn finance environmental projects (e.g. intelligent lighting control in the corridors, motion detectors in the toilet rooms, heating control, heat recovery of the cooling systems, etc.). The waste is separated correctly. Set-up and food waste is processed into biogas. The bathing slippers are washable and therefore reusable.

Well-BeingThe well-stocked library with many books by Swiss writers, the well-preserved social rooms and the Kurhaus park invite you to linger, relax and slow down. In the Kurhaus park there is a Kneipp pond and a sauna. Steam bath and whirlpool are currently under construction. Massages and craniosacral therapies are occasionally offered. Congress location for ketogenic nutrition.
