With views of the mountains, grassy fields with sheep, the vineyards or the sea, the Hotel Nafarrola welcomes its guests in the Basque Country.

The historic building, which has stood in this place since 1842 and was first mentioned in writing in 1285, is run by two brothers, Josu and Gaizka Goikoetxea. Josu is responsible for reception and guest services and Gaizka for gastronomy. They opened Nafarrola as a hotel in 2021 and want to create a unique and differentiated experience that brings the magic of the place and the region to life.

At Hotel Nafarrola, Nordic elegance meets local traditions. The goal is clear: to exude peace and serenity. Each of the eight rooms is unique in its shape, but they are all furnished with the same high-quality materials. The atmosphere is calming and guests leave the hotel with a feeling of renewal, strengthened by the harmonious surroundings and the relaxed mood that prevails here.

In the hotel restaurant, Gaizka Goikoetxea conjures up fresh, traditional dishes. There are also exclusive culinary experiences such as show cooking with regional ingredients.

Sustainable

ArchitectureThe architecture of the house is typically Basque. Inside, new lines and a calm design combine with the stones and wood of the original house. The hosts invested in local furniture manufacturers and, as part of this collaboration, also visited the respective craft workshops.

FoodMore than half of the food in the hotel is organic. All of the food is also homemade. The hosts combine their own produce with that of their neighbors and the market in Bilbao. The food waste is used to feed animals and create compost.

All the employees come from the city of Bermeo. The hosts aim to employ them long-term. Therefore, they offer them good conditions to plan days off and also give them extra days off. In addition, Josu and Gaizka support local initiatives that work for rare diseases. They also try to receive students and locals throughout the year to show them what they do here at the hotel.

EnvironmentThe hotel has solar panels, water is harvested on site, natural soaps are used, waste is recycled and the hosts shop locally. In addition, the hotel is part of the EUROPARC protected areas and contributes to mountain recreation.

Well-BeingThe hotel offers massages. There is also a collaboration with YOGA teachers and an e-bike rental service. The hotel's location is perfect for cycling, mountain biking, trekking and surfing.

El hotel cuenta con ocho habitaciones con nombres inspirados por los elementos naturales, como Haizea (viento en euskera), Itsasoa (mar) o Ilargia (luna). Bañeras de hidromasaje, chimenea, terrazas con vistas impresionantes... para no querer salir nunca de la habitación. Un apunte, las estancias situadas en el segundo piso tienen un precioso techo abuhardillado con vigas de madera. Los productos de tocador son sostenibles y de origen 100% natural certificado. La gastronomía en el hotel Nafarrola, de la mano del chef Gaizka Goicoetxea se nutre, naturalmente, de proveedores locales, del propio huerto del hotel y marida perfectamente con una carta de vinos ecológicos de km 0.

En mitad de un paraje rural de postal se levanta Nafarrola, un caserío del siglo XIX reformado con toques nórdicos y mucho gusto. Silencio, buena vida y ocho exclusivas habitaciones os esperan en el nuevo hotel-capricho del País Vasco. Imagina: mañanas de aire puro y desayunos caseros, noches estrelladas desde el jacuzzi del dormitorio, y de fondo, tan solo el murmullo del río y el balar de las ovejas.

By car

From Bilbao it takes about half an hour to get to the hotel (32 km). From San Sebastian it takes about 1.5 hours (120 km), from Pamplona it takes a good 2 hours (177 km) and from Santander it takes about 1.5 hours (128 km). The exact address can be found on the website.

With public transport

The nearest train station is in Bermeo. From there the hotel is 3.5 km away. For this journey you will need to arrange a taxi.
