Hotel Boltenhof

Fürstenberg/Havel, Brandenburg, Germany

The hotel on Gut Boltenhof is a charming place in the north of Brandenburg. Guests, the host family and long-term visitors live there: inside in harmony with nature and the animals of our own organic farm.

A special highlight is the unique tranquility that radiates from the rural surroundings. The modern hotel in the old manor house is an oasis of wellbeing and invites you to recharge your batteries. In nine differently furnished country hotel rooms, guests either spend the night in a modern design mix of wood and strong colors or in rooms that have their own story through upcycling furniture. You can slow down while walking through the woods, reading a book in the garden or visiting the sauna. The special stay is rounded off by sophisticated dishes in the GUTESS restaurant belonging to the hotel.

Gut Boltenhof is a symbiosis of two accommodations: the hotel, which is perfect for couples or single travelers who want to relax in the country or work from there, and the holiday apartments, which are ideal for families who love life want to get to know them on the farm.

Andrea Riest takes care of the hotel and holiday apartments. Her husband Jan-Uwe runs organic farming with 20 Limousin and Uckermark cattle, pigs and a petting zoo, which also includes donkeys. 300 geese that live on the farm for six months, more precisely from July to the start of the slaughter season, keep the farm busy. After the couple took over the estate from their (in-laws) parents, they were able to gradually develop it further without the help of investors. Sustainable management, taking into account the protection of monuments during the renovation and animal welfare in agriculture, as well as meeting one's own requirements, make the Hotel Boltenhof the unique place it is.

ArchitectureThe renovation work on the country hotel took place in the winter months from January to March 2019, and the various hotel rooms have been available to guests since April. Jarek, craftsman and employee, who has been living and working on the estate for several years, took care of the renovation and renovation, which took place in cooperation with regional craft companies. The nine hotel rooms are individually designed and show different color concepts. In addition, the rooms that were designed during the second renovation in 2019 and those that were already furnished differ. The last designed rooms were equipped with cupboard systems from a regional carpenter. The furnishings of the older rooms live up to the principle of upcycling, in that furniture with history is upgraded and restored. The naming of the individual rooms comes from Andreas pen, she is also responsible for the furnishing of the hotel rooms and their harmonious assembly.

FoodFresh food is served at Gut Boltenhof - both at breakfast, which is included with every overnight stay, and in the evening with fine dining in the GUTESS restaurant. As the name suggests, you eat particularly well at GUTESS and, above all, eat well-selected foods. The ingredients for this come either from their own organic farm, such as meat, or are obtained from suppliers who the hosts know personally. These deliver what cannot be done by oneself; including vegetables, fish, mushrooms, goat cheese and bread. Guests can look forward to regional and seasonal dishes. The kitchen likes to pay attention to intolerances and a vegan or vegetarian diet. In addition, the principle is lived that the dishes clearly show which ingredients are hidden in them and that these are prepared in as few processing steps as possible. Coffee and homemade cakes can be enjoyed in the courtyard in the afternoon.

From the beginning, an attempt was made to fill the farm with life over the winter, for example through seminars, so that the employees can be employed regardless of the season. The aim was also to look for people from the region who would like to work at Gut Boltenhof. Over the years, more and more people found their short or long way to the estate, who fell in love with it and wanted to stay there. Since then, Andrea and Jan-Uwe have offered various opportunities for collaboration, such as volunteer work. Andrea and Jan-Uwe believe that the farm is looking for people who should participate and who also fit in with it and the project. With this attitude they have done very well over the past few years, are grateful for the more than 20 employees and are always happy to welcome new contributors.

EnvironmentThe hotel uses green electricity and relies on a new, e ff ective wood heating system that is operated with wood from sustainable forestry. The desire to generate energy by means of solar systems was refused due to the individual monument protection of the manor house. There is currently a gas boiler that is used to generate energy. The rubbish is separated on the entire estate, in the rooms guests will find Rosenrot soaps in a deliberately chosen small size and deliberately not a large selection of hygiene products that might only be opened and then thrown away. For this reason, a small, environmentally friendly set consisting of a wooden toothbrush, a shampoo and a cream can be purchased in your own courtyard. The courtyard itself is in the process of development and offers biologically sustainable products and regional food. Leftovers are fed to their own animals.

Well-BeingThe wellness experience lies in the tranquility of the country. For many guests, the chirping of birds at first seems like noise because they are simply not used to it. But as soon as you stay at Gut Boltenhof for a few days, you learn to appreciate and enjoy it more and more. This feeling and experience is described as a unique “country tranquility”, which at some point is no longer noticeable, but is extremely enjoyed. Since December 2020 there has been a sauna in a converted construction trailer in the hotel garden, below the cow pasture. It is equipped with a shower and a fireplace with two deck chairs and was built using wood in a lightweight construction. Pampas grass and reeds serve as privacy screens to ensure privacy away from the farm. The sun loungers in the garden and a walk in the private park also offer peace and relaxation.
