Hof Unternberg

Margreid/Fennberg, South Tyrol, Italy

Nestled in green hills and lush fields, the beautiful Unternberg farm is idyllically situated on a high plateau in the South Tyrolean Etsch Valley between Bolzano and Salurn. Pure nature all around.

The farm has been owned by the Schweiggl family for almost 200 years. The place had been uninhabited for a long time and was not in good condition when Adalbert Schweiggl unexpectedly inherited the farm in 2008. His daughter Alexandra now runs the farm together with her partner Peter, their two small children and their employees. After a long period of planning and sustainable renovation, the 800-year-old building now radiates renewed warmth. The farm was converted into an organic farm and a long-held dream of the family has now come true. All three generations live and work here together.

The two holiday apartments were created as part of the renovation in 2021. With fragrant wooden furniture, natural materials and some indirect light sources, they are cozy, modern and minimalist at the same time. A few meadow flowers on the table and the beautiful view of the greenery always let nature into the apartment. Holiday apartment Willi has a small balcony with a wonderful view.

The small bathing lake Fennbergersee is within walking distance and is located in a biotope and therefore offers a very special flora and fauna. At night there is no light pollution or noise here. With a bit of luck, you can get your money's worth astronomically on starry nights. And then it's a bit as if time has stood still and there is no more hustle and bustle. So much peace and quiet just feels like a really relaxing nature holiday.

Sustainable

ArchitectureThe core of the house dates back to the 13th century. The house is a listed building, which was given special attention during the extension and renovation. The aim was to retain the characteristic and unique features; the old floors were removed and refurbished, and the ceilings and beams were largely retained. If new wood was needed, the craftsmen used the forest that belongs to the property.

FoodOrganically certified products in Demeter quality from our own farm. There are no other shops in Fennberg itself. The nearest shop is in the village of Kurtatsch, 25 minutes away.

In summer, 1-2 employees live on site free of charge.

EnvironmentThe house has been newly insulated with natural materials, and there is a solar system for hot water. The log heating system uses wood from the village's own forest to provide warmth in winter. The garbage is naturally separated. The water from the tap is of very good quality, so you can safely do without bottles. Almost all cleaning and washing products are biodegradable, as the village has a plant-based sewage treatment plant for wastewater. The soap dispensers and dishwashing liquid are refilled to save plastic. The towels and bed linen are made of certified organic cotton.
