Heimat1883

Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Bavaria, Germany

Welcome home! Well, this house in the Bavarian Alps may not really be your home. But if you spend a few days here, you won't forget the comforting warm feeling around your heart.

Hosts Irene and Anton Mangold have lovingly renovated the historic building with the listed facade inside - from an ecological point of view and only using high-quality natural materials. Natural materials such as clay plasters and solid wood furniture, for example made from fragrant Swiss pine, meet quality design classics and exclusive furnishings. Guests can choose from a total of five exclusive holiday apartments with contemporary interiors. In the basement of the house there is a small wellness oasis with sauna, steam bath and relaxation room.

But it is the personality of the host that makes the stay special. As soon as you have made a mistake, you find yourself with the chard at “Hoagartn” (Bavarian for sitting together). They offer joint herb hikes or other activities to bring guests closer to their blue and white home - not least during wine tastings in the vaulted cellar.

Heimat1883 is located in Alt-Garmisch, one of the oldest quarters of the town with numerous historic farmhouses. There are various cozy outdoor seating areas around the house. Now and then graze sheep in the garden - as a natural lawnmower. The nearby Garmisch pedestrian zone offers cafés and plenty of shopping and strolling opportunities. Everything is within walking distance. The beautiful baroque parish church of St. Martin in Garmisch and the various mountain peaks of the Wetterstein, Ammer and Ester mountains with the two landmarks of the Alp and Zugspitze are within sight. Here you can hike to your heart's content. Numerous hiking trails can be reached in just 5 minutes. The ski area is 5 minutes away by ski bus. Various beautiful Bavarian lakes such as the crystal-clear Eibsee or the Staffelsee are not far.

The Gabriele Münter Museum in Murnau and the Franz Marc Museums in Kochel are recommended for painting enthusiasts. Excursions to the castles of Ludwig II, such as Linderhof, Neuschwanstein or the chess castle in the mountains, are also possible without any problems.

Sustainable

ArchitectureThe historic Mittentenhaus was built around 1600. In 1850 it burned to the ground and then became a home for the community of Garmisch in 1883 and a home for many locals in need. The house has been owned by the Mangold family since 2013, who lovingly renovated the building with lots of time and respect and reopened it in 2017 for holiday guests. Their goal: to preserve a piece of history and to tell it further. The historic facade is listed and preserved; Natural materials from local companies and local craftsmen were used in the renovation. The whole house is a successful mix of old and new. The rooms are large and bright, lovingly thought out, special and not off the shelf. Custom-made solid wood furniture from a carpenter at home meets modern design classics. The style is pure and no frills. No alpine kitsch to be found anywhere. The atmosphere is warm and cozy.

EnvironmentSustainability plays a very important role for the operators. That is why they decided not to demolish and rebuild the house, but to renovate it - with natural materials that last a long time, are resource-saving and were produced locally. A solar system is planned. Attention is paid to waste separation. The Mangold family supports the local sheep sharing team, a sustainable form of garden care.

Well-BeingIn the basement of the house there is a beautiful wellness area with sauna, steam bath, relaxation room and tea bar. Bio-certified body care is provided in the bathrooms. Revitalized Grander water flows from all pipes.
