Nestled between chestnut forests, wooded mountain peaks, and romantic half-timbered houses lies Haus Nothweiler – a listed 18th-century farmhouse that has been lovingly and respectfully restored to modern times by the current hosts, Hermann Fahlenbrach and Kerstin Habersang.
After more than ten years of vacancy, careful restoration began in 2021 and was completed in 2025. Since then, guests have been welcomed. The building itself combines history and the present: The house itself exudes traditional coziness – for example, the preserved half-timbered wall in the bedroom – while the former barn impresses with its loft-like spaciousness, brightness, and modern furnishings. The color scheme in shades of green and gray is inspired by historical models, and the furniture and fittings are of high quality and tastefully chosen.
Nothweiler itself is a very small, exceptionally quiet village right on the border with Alsace. Wonderful hiking trails begin here, leading through the Palatinate Forest/Northern Vosges Biosphere Reserve—past bizarre rock formations, castle ruins, valley meadows, and deep forests. The Wine Route is just 20 kilometers away, and in 10 to 15 minutes you can reach Alsace, where culinary delights and a sense of lifestyle await.

Ecological building materials were used throughout the restoration of the house. Walls made of clay blocks with clay plaster ensure a healthy indoor climate, while reed insulation and wood fiberboard provide natural thermal insulation. The roof is covered with clay tiles, and the walls are painted with breathable silicate paints. Wooden windows blend harmoniously into the historic setting. Natural materials were primarily used in the interior design. Floors made of oiled oak planks and solid oak furniture—from tables and chairs to cabinets—give the rooms warmth and durability. Architecturally, the focus was on creating as much light and spaciousness as possible, despite the low ceilings in the historic house. The former stable with its adjoining barn was converted into a modern living area: with open space up to the roof, a sweeping steel spiral staircase, and clean lines. All work was carried out by local craftsmen, and the materials were also sourced from the surrounding area wherever possible.
Employees come directly from Nothweiler, ensuring that a portion of the added value remains locally. Host Hermann Fahlenbrach is also involved in several support groups for kindergartens and schools and regularly supports organizations such as Greenpeace and other initiatives committed to environmental and nature conservation.
Wall and underfloor heating, powered by environmentally friendly geothermal energy, provide cozy warmth. The entire electricity requirement is covered 100% by green energy – for sustainable comfort without compromise.
