House

Haus am Wald

Hitzacker, Lower Saxony, Germany

The "Haus am Wald" in the beautiful Wendland region reveals a charming symbiosis of closeness to nature and architectural elegance. The design of the house with large windows and open spaces allows a constant view of the surrounding nature. And the forest begins right on the property.

Hosts Ehsan and Lenka, who are from Hamburg, teamed up with an architect to plan and build this holiday home. The project combined their vision of a retreat that could be used both as a holiday home and as their future home. During the design, particular emphasis was placed on finding a balance between rural idyll and urban connectivity. The result is a place that is far enough away to experience real country life, but not so isolated that the amenities of the city seem out of reach.

Inside the house there is a colorful mix of furniture, most of which is second-hand and was purchased locally. A special highlight are the dining chairs, which come from the church in Hitzacker. The interplay of warm, cozy elements and the quiet, relaxed environment on the edge of the forest makes the house an ideal place for relaxation and contemplation.

Sustainable

ArchitectureThe interior of the house is mainly made of used furniture from the area, with a few exceptions. The garden is natural or close to natural. No plants were grown, the forest and nature are allowed to run free here. This allows native plants to grow back on their own and no irrigation is required. The wooden house was built sustainably, with materials such as cellulose insulation, linoleum flooring and river gravel from the Elbe. The planning was carried out in collaboration with an architect from Hamburg, and all the craftsmanship was carried out by local companies in the area, a maximum of 20 kilometers away.

EnvironmentThe accommodation relies on sustainable technologies and environmentally friendly practices, such as solar thermal energy and an air-to-air heat pump. Energy-saving technology is integrated throughout the building, while waste separation and the use of eco-friendly washing and cleaning products support environmentally conscious housekeeping. Composting and the use of refill packs also help to reduce waste. Guests are welcome to use the food and household items provided, which makes the stay not only comfortable but also sustainable.

Well-BeingFor relaxation and wellness, there are yoga mats, fascia rolls, massage devices and a fakir mat. Active guests can explore the surrounding area on bike tours, hikes or forest bathing, or use the canoe on the nearby waters - after all, Hitzacker is a climatic health resort. For relaxing days in the house, there is a small library for reading.
