Vacation is a good opportunity to rethink behavior patterns or even the whole lifestyle. Best in a pleasant and inspiring environment. The two apartments in the "Green Phenicia" house by Anni Hauberg-Lahoud and her husband Dany offer guests the chance to try out a sustainable, packaging-free lifestyle. The two invite all curious people to take a relaxed look at an environmentally conscious lifestyle.
And here, in the middle of the beautiful Hanseatic city of Lübeck, it's pretty easy. To start with, there are delicious cakes, cookies and other homemade delicacies. When you look around with a cookie in your mouth, your heart really opens. The apartments are bright, large, colorful and, last but not least, furnished with great attention to detail. Most of the rooms contain self-made, original living and lighting ideas made from found driftwood, as well as old pallet and scaffold planks. Every piece of furniture has a story. "By not decorating or completing every centimeter of the apartment, we want to give you a feeling of being able to breathe", says Anni. That was a great success!
The location also contributes to well-being: the view through the bedroom windows looks directly at the beautiful, colorful old town houses on Lilienstraße in Lübeck. In the morning the sun is there and invites you to breakfast on the balcony.
The concept of "waste reduction" is present throughout the house, but is not brought across as unpleasantly instructive. On the contrary, the equipment clearly shows how uncomplicated and worth living a sustainable lifestyle can look like. Dany and Anni are friendly hosts who are happy to share recommendations for visiting the city. Lübeck's old town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Bicycles are available free of charge to take a look at the numerous beautiful corners. In addition to visiting the city, there are excursions to the Baltic Sea, the Wakenitz River or the Elbe-Lübeck Canal. The area offers almost unlimited cycling and water sports.
We also featured this accommodation in Five places for city trips in Germany. You can find the hosts' favourite recipe to try in the kitchen whispers.

ArchitectureThe house was built by Annis great-grandfather in 1910 and has been family-owned ever since. The fourth generation now lives there and also opens up the charm of the building to visitors. The atmosphere is bright and cozy, modern and inviting. The predominantly self-designed and built, original living and lighting ideas create their own mood.
FoodThe hosts prepare a Lebanese brunch for guests who want to eat comfortably in the house on weekends - with some preparation for shopping. Because Dany is Lebanese and therefore deeply rooted in Lebanese cuisine. The brunch consists of various Middle Eastern specialties that are prepared from fresh organic products. For brunch, everything is homemade, from bread to hummus to jams. Vegan or vegetarian options available on request. In addition, no food is offered, but the kitchens in the apartments are well equipped so that guests can self-cater well. Guests will also find all the staple foods there. These are all organic products that were bought in the Lübeck unpackaged shop.
EnvironmentSustainability is an integral part of everyday life for the hosts. They try to do completely without plastic packaging. Avoiding plastic when shopping means that sustainability also plays an important role when it comes to eating and preparing food. Only citric acid, sodium bicarbonate or biodegradable cleaning agents are used for cleaning. These are purchased in commercial quantities in order to avoid packaging in small quantities and thus to save packaging waste considerably. This concept also applies to other products such as flour, pasta or oil, i.e. foods that last a long time. Green electricity is used. In the apartments there are numerous ideas around the topics of sustainability, recycling and upcycling.

In Lübeck, city traffic has been using hybrid buses for several years. However, it is only a 15-minute walk from the train station. There are guest bikes for getting around the city, which are provided free of charge for the duration of your stay.
