Gasthaus Canow

Wustrow, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany

The Gasthaus Canow is located in the middle of idyllic nature between lakes, forests and fields on the (small) Mecklenburg Lake District. In front of the front door green meadows with grazing cows, the forest and the neighboring property with a boat dock. Add to that the scent of good coffee and home-baked cake, which magically attracts guests.

Lea and Auriel met and fell in love in a café in Berlin. Both have experience in gastronomy and the desire to be a host themselves at some point. With a bit of luck, as a growing family, they found an old wheelwright's workshop (formerly a wood workshop) in Wustrow. However, it took another two years and a lot of learning by doing to turn the derelict 1860s house into the beautiful inn. Both say in unison that all the hard work was worth it because it turned out even better than they themselves dared to hope for.

Upstairs there are four spacious en-suite double bedrooms with the option of an extra bed. The two separate bedroom apartment on the ground floor has a private bathroom and a separate entrance - ideal for families or a weekend with the best friends. A shared living room with a cozy seating area, fireplace and kitchen for self-sufficiency is available to all guests. The modern and urban flair in the rooms paired with the minimalist interior design and a successful interior design ensures the greatest possible comfort in the house.

In the morning, a delicious breakfast with regional products awaits the well-rested guests. The tomatoes in the quiche and the mirabelle plums on the cake come from your own or the neighbor's garden. It doesn't get any more local. Some people are just great hosts - and you definitely meet two of them here.

Sustainable

ArchitectureThe house was extensively renovated over a construction phase of more than two years with local craftsmen and about 95 percent ecologically / building biologically. Lots of clay, wood and lime now ensure a bright, organic atmosphere.

FoodAlmost all of the food here is homemade - using organic ingredients from their own farm - or sourced from local fishermen and farmers. Dairy products and eggs come from organically certified producers in the vicinity. Food waste is composted and the ground coffee is processed in the neighboring gardens.

Their own initiatives for refugees from the Ukraine war, a cooperative with a sustainable and social focus in Wesenberg and a village development initiative in Canow are very important to them. As cooperative bank customers, they also ensure the further expansion of sustainable projects with their shares. All employees live in the area, can take part in weekly employee yoga or borrow e-bikes for the way to work free of charge. The food network "The Community", to which they belong, also regularly trains the employees in exciting workshops.

EnvironmentThe heating works with a heat pump and the old floorboards were reinstalled in the house (as a counter or wall paneling). Some of the furniture is second hand or self-made.

Well-BeingThere are regular yoga classes and in the future there will also be a sauna.
