Even the view of the Follonico property upon arrival is cinematic. The house is in a picturesque location between Montepulciano and Montefollonico in the heart of Tuscany, surrounded by vineyards and bathed in magical light.
The 17th-century house was completely renovated by Fabio and Suzanne over three years. After the original owners, a farming family, left it in the early 1960s, there was of course a lot to do. The two wanted to restore the original rural charm in order to create a souvenir of tradition and culture. Since 2009, wonderful holidays can be spent here in six individual rooms. The successful mix of old wooden beams, rustic stone walls and modern furnishing elements, as well as beautiful colors and tasteful decoration ensures a real feel-good atmosphere. The pool was added later and blends harmoniously into the landscape. Here you can stay and relax all day long. The view and the many butterflies and flowers are beautiful.
In the morning there is an excellent farmer's breakfast with fresh organic products. In the afternoons and evenings, cheese or cold cuts platters are available on request, and there is a fridge from which you can help yourself at any time. Three times a week, secluded dinner evenings are also offered and there are many very good restaurants in the surrounding area. "Follonico" is a certified organic farm, which can only be maintained in this form by the guests. It's a good thing that there are still places that preserve tradition and are still so modern and contemporary. And even better that they give us, as vacationers, that real Tuscany feeling.

EnvironmentThere is a 10kWh solar panel system and a solar collector to heat the water. A water-saving shower head has been installed in the shower and it is only watered very sparingly. The rainwater is stored in a small lake. The waste is separated and composted. There are certified organic care products.
Although the Tuscan farmhouse that Follonico’s owners have converted into this six-room bed-and-breakfast dates back to the ninth century, any residual medieval gloom has long since been excised, making room for contemporary minimalist décor and spacious rooms awash in natural light. Surrounded by a Tuscan countryside of cypresses, sheep pastures, and olive groves, Follonico offers a subdued, pastoral alternative to the vineyard boutiques and touristy guesthouses that dot the region.
Behind the Val d’Orcia stands this bijou B&B surrounded by a small biodynamic vineyard. There are six rooms — all exposed beams, travertine floors and farming accoutrements as art — dotted around an old farmhouse, most with individual entrances. Breakfast is rigorously Tuscan, with homemade bread, cakes and jam, the farm’s own oil and eggs, local meats and cheese, plus a different main each day. The pool faces the hilltop town of Montefollonico, with a shaded area for loungers, and garden spots amid rose bowers and vines.

Unfortunately it is not possible to reach Follonico by public transport. From Florence you drive about 1.5 hours to Torrita di Siena (105 km). It takes just under 1 hour from Siena (61 km), from Perugia it is also around 1 hour (69 km), from Grosseto around 1.5 hours (93 km) and from Rome it takes a good 2 hours (192 km).
