Fenigli Numero Uno is located in an extraordinarily beautiful landscape in Italy and offers absolute peace and quiet as well as pleasant temperatures and particularly good air, even in the warm season. The rare ensemble of a church and three houses is run by the hosts Heinz Glässgen and Mauro Massaccesi.
The church and the former rectory with sacristy are over 300 years old and once formed the center of the former independent municipality of Fenigli, which was first mentioned in documents in 1259. The school, built in 1955, has been rebuilt and renovated since 1995. Fenigli Numero Uno was initially intended for personal use and for friends. With the expansion of the school and another neighboring house, it became an agriturismo with holiday apartments that offers relaxation, peace and individual development opportunities as well as community activities. The original idea of Fenigli as a place of gathering and social interaction is thus continued.
The rooms in the apartments have been preserved in their original size wherever possible and meet today's requirements and expectations of comfort. One of the double rooms has a particularly large bathroom with shower and bathtub, two others offer very large living rooms with spectacular beam constructions. The rooms and living rooms are mostly large and flooded with light, with numerous cozy corners. A long, vaulted corridor invites you to take a relaxing stroll.
Fenigli's special features include its prominent position, the church, the terraces, the small farm and the wide grounds surrounding the houses. The property also offers many places to relax. A particularly popular feature is the open fireplace at the back of the church with a covered large round table made from the lid of an ancient oak barrel from the wine cellar of a thousand-year-old monastery. Fenigli has been a place used by choirs, choir workshops and other group/community activities for years and is perfect for this too.
The school's upper apartment, once a classroom, is now a popular event space. The large kitchen in apartment number one has a fireplace and a wood-fired oven. In the summer months, breakfast and dinner are usually eaten on a large terrace, and various places invite you to get together outdoors in the evening.

ArchitectureAs a listed building, Fenigli is bound by almost all regulations that exist in Italy. As far as possible, the original character of the house has been and will be preserved, including the beamed ceilings, floors and doors. Changes and renovations are carried out considerately and carefully. New electrical, water and sanitary systems have been installed. Only local and regional suppliers and materials were used during the conversion and renovation.
FoodFenigli Numero Uno is an organically certified agriturismo. This means that the majority of the food on offer comes from the farm's own produce and from direct producers in the area. Only a small part of the food is sourced from regular grocery stores. The accommodation offers a breakfast buffet at the times requested by guests. Dinner is also available on request. The wines come from well-known and accepted producers in the region. Fenigli Numero Uno also focuses on the production of organic jam with 90% fruit content from raspberries and blackberries, as well as on the cultivation of olives, sour cherries and artichokes.
The hosts also maintain relationships with the former residents of the now abandoned Fenigli centre and their descendants. They are invited to the events and celebrations. Former pupils of the school, which now belongs to Fenigli Numero Uno, are also regularly invited to class reunions.
The church also hosts concerts by choirs that are guests at Fenigli Numero Uno. In addition, the hosts organize concerts with friendly artists from the area. All of these cultural activities are free of charge for guests. Social interaction between the guests and between them and the locals is a central concern in Fenigli, which is promoted through such events.
EnvironmentSustainable management includes, as far as permitted and approved in a centro storico, a solar system, waste separation, targeted avoidance of plastic, and the collection of rainwater in numerous cisterns. The hosts sensitize their guests to water and energy use and ask them to use natural resources responsibly. The large grounds remain largely natural. The large meadow behind the house with its rich biodiversity is only mown in October, so that the plants are reserved for bees and other insects from spring to autumn. The pool, which is located a little way away, is filled with rainwater and disinfected with chlorine-free salt electrolysis. The plants, especially the field with the raspberry and blackberry plantation, are also watered with rainwater where necessary.
Well-BeingFenigli Numero Uno is not only very popular with yogis, choirs and other groups seeking community activities, but also offers a saltwater pool for relaxation. Physiotherapy, massages and beauty treatments can be arranged in Pergola by appointment. Guests can also go on hikes of any length at any time and the hosts can also organize guided tours on request. For refreshing bathing, the sea is about 35 kilometers away and the river is about 15 kilometers away.
