Ca l’Andreu

Tiana, Catalonia, Spain

At Ca l'Andreu, guests have a unique experience amidst a natural and sustainable environment in Catalonia, Spain.

From the room windows, the view sweeps over the garden and the surrounding mountains. From the house itself, there are panoramic views of the vineyards, the organic gardens, and the Mediterranean Sea, with Barcelona in the background.

The "Masia," a traditional building dating back to the 15th century, is a protected cultural heritage site. Owned by the same family since the 1940s, it was converted for ecotourism in 2013. The vision of the hosts of Ca l'Andreu is to offer guests a sustainable tourism experience that connects nature and local culture. The focus is on environmental education, nature conservation, and regenerative agriculture. In this place, guests feel a deep connection to nature.

A wildlife observatory and photography center, which also offers workshops on photography, scientific illustration, and bird identification, is located nearby. Guests can also learn more about sustainable agriculture and seasonal harvesting through various projects. With the goal of becoming a model for ecotourism, the owners also plan to create a private nature reserve to further promote nature and species conservation, and thus biodiversity.

Sustainable

ArchitectureCa l'Andreu is distinguished by its historic Gothic architecture, reflecting centuries of history. The façade and staircase are officially listed as cultural heritage and have been preserved in their original form. Local materials were used during the restoration to preserve the building's authenticity. Family furniture from the 19th and 20th centuries has been carefully restored. Guests' comfort is ensured by eco-friendly bed linens and towels, as well as handmade mattresses from a local, sustainable workshop. Heirloom tableware is also available, reflecting the family heritage of the property's hosts.

FoodThe property offers organic and locally produced food thanks to Els Horts de l'Alegria. The chef's recommendation is the tasting menu, based entirely on fresh, seasonal ingredients from the property's gardens. For guests with special dietary requirements, vegetarian and vegan dishes are also available, featuring exclusively plant-based ingredients from the property's own gardens.

Locals are preferred for cleaning, laundry, maintenance, floristry, and gardening work. The estate also works closely with local organizations, including the Catalan Tourism Agency, the Maresme Tourism Consortium, and the DO Alella Wine Route. Local events such as the Festa Major, Festa dels Racons, and Tast Tiana are also actively supported.

EnvironmentThe property uses renewable energy such as solar panels and biomass heating and sources green electricity from a local cooperative. Efficient water management with rainwater harvesting and a system for treating wastewater from wetlands also contribute to environmental protection. Composting and selective waste separation are standard practice. The Mediterranean garden without lawns reduces water consumption. Guests can actively contribute to nature conservation through Hide9pins, a wildlife observation project, and Els Horts de l'Alegria, which promotes organic farming. The property has collaborated with the Catalan Institute of Ornithology (ICO) for over 30 years and is a pioneer of the SYLVIA bird ring project. Hunting is prohibited on the property, and the property is a founding member of the Association of Private Properties for the Protection of Nature. In the property's library, guests will find a collection of books on flora, fauna, and the environment, underscoring the hosts' commitment to sustainability.

Well-BeingThe property offers a range of great amenities to make your stay even more special. Outdoor yoga sessions provide a relaxing experience, while creative minds can participate in ceramics workshops or floral arrangements using native plants.
