Bergaliv

Vallsta, Gävleborg County, Sweden

Where there used to be a ski slope, nature has spread again with slender conifers and delicate pine trees. Inspired by this sight and the view down to the river and valley, the Michelsons decided to buy the site and to realize a vision here.

The Lofthus, inaugurated in May 2017, is the first step to a landscape hotel, which is to be created from several such or similar towers here. Guests can sit up here like an eagle in the nest and let their gaze and soul wander into the distance. It may well happen that a real golden eagle sails through the field of vision.

The Japanese futon mattresses and pillows, which are hung on the wall during the day and spread out on the sisal carpet for sleeping, match the meditative character of the minimalist turret. Duvet covers and towels are made of flax. Spun from the fibers of the common flax, which is the provincial flower of Hälsingland. There are pools, climbing forest and bars down in the valley. Up here, above all the tops - is rest.

By the way, we also featured this accommodation in Five places in the far north of Europe.

Sustainable

ArchitectureSustainability played a major role in the construction of this loft tower above the tree tops. The architect Hanna Michelson designed the loft according to the traditional regional construction, with which the local timber builders are also very familiar. Local woods were used in a way that makes it possible to do without environmentally harmful impregnation. Outside pine and spruce, inside birch and ash, in between ecological flax fibers that enable a natural moisture exchange.

FoodEvery morning, the Bergaliv staff brings breakfast to the turret. It mainly consists of organic ingredients such as bread with jam or cheese, yogurt and various fruits and berries. There are also juices and tea or coffee. In addition, fresh water is brought up every day for drinking and for the independent preparation of tea or coffee in the small tea kitchen. There is a restaurant in the nearby SPA hotel and in the kitchen there, guests of the Bergaliv can also request a take-away meal.

The operators of the Bergaliv support various projects in the nearby village. They are committed to municipal playgrounds and are part of a cooperative for the local cultivation of fruit and vegetables.

EnvironmentThe house is insulated with flax fibers and built from pure natural wood. The floor remains unsealed due to the stilts. Electricity and heating comes from hydropower and the toilet has a chimney pipe up instead of a downpipe, because here the legacies are burned and are simply a pile of completely ecological ash (the guests have nothing to do with their disposal)

Well-BeingFirst climb up to get down. Anyone who arrives up here in this completely free-standing turret in the midst of tree tops and a completely unobstructed view cannot help but relax in every fiber. In addition, the use of the Orbaden Spa Resort is included in the overnight price of the Bergaliv Lofthus. In addition to the pool and sauna, there are all kinds of massage offers, as well as yoga and many other wellness therapies. And right next to it is the river swimming pool with a sandy beach.
