Alte Försterei Wildenthal

Eibenstock, Saxony, Germany

The detached house of the Alte Försterei Wildenthal is located in a secluded location on an almost 2 hectare large, surrounding mountain meadowland. Flowering meadows, dark spruce forests and the blue sky can be seen from every window. The Alte Försterei is a finely tuned holiday apartment house with five spacious apartments. All apartments have an integrated sauna or infrared cabin, which invite you to private wellness, relaxation and tranquility. The house offers a service area with a variety of books, board games, guides for hiking tours as well as sauna, cosmetic and spa products. In the outdoor area, guests can expect enough space to relax, among other things at the grill or the fire bowl.

The host is Nicolle Ludwig. In her professional life she has often rehabilitated and created new things for others. The conversion of the former ruin with a lot of history in a dreamlike location appealed to her, and so she decided to implement the project herself, which no one dared to approach for decades. The building was erected around 1834 and is a listed building. With a lot of creativity and planning spirit, the former Royal Saxon Forest District of Wildenthal was completely renovated, modernized and converted into an unusual holiday home in 2018 and 2019. The ruin became a country estate, which has been a wonderful travel destination for a vacation away from the crowds since 2020.

In the Alte Försterei every guest will find the tranquility that is sought everywhere. Distance from the mostly hectic everyday life in beautiful surroundings while hiking or cycling in the ridges of the Ore Mountains. In a house that is not noisy even when it is fully occupied. Each holiday apartment tells its own story and has been given a corresponding interior: immerse yourself in the world of “Luise” and the “Forester”, find inspiration in “Marlene and Frank Schöbel” (Marlene Dietrich and Frank Sinatra), and spend free time with “Elfride and Werner Schmidt ”and find relaxation in the“ Leipzig ”holiday apartment.

Sustainable

ArchitectureThe Alte Försterei is a monumental, formerly manorial seat in the historical architectural style. During the renovation, windows, doors, stairwell, arches and the roof were recreated or refurbished exactly according to the historical model. Part of the interior comes from regional carpentry. Local providers were largely involved in the construction. When it came to furnishing, great emphasis was placed on pictures by well-known artists such as Hopper, Vettriano, Macke, Kadinski and El Bocho.

FoodIn the Alte Försterei the guests cater for themselves. On request, guests can have the hostess deliver food from the region. For example mushrooms or berries from the forest, as well as fruits and vegetables from regional cultivation. In addition, fish and meat can be ordered in organic quality.

EnvironmentThe house is state-of-the-art: In addition to thermal insulation measures, this also includes water-saving toilets. The house has a special building physics, as it consists of a two-layer masonry and was built on granite rock. So the house needs air to live and all the materials used have been specifically tailored to this. In the sustainable operation of the house, attention is paid to separating waste into paper, plastic, residual waste and glass. Only cleaning agents that are environmentally friendly and economical to use are used. No salt is scattered during winter road clearance and spring water is used to extract benefits (no drinking water). There are extensive mountain meadows around the forestry department. They are under nature protection and have long been designated as non-land, and were therefore no longer cultivable. It took several years for them to bloom again with proper mowing. Maintenance during the year is carried out in cooperation with the landscape maintenance association, a regional organic farmer and the host. The costs for this are borne by the EAFRD fund and own financing.

Well-BeingThe Finnish saunas or the infrared cabins that can be found in the apartments convey an authentic impression of the Saxon Ore Mountains through the scent of hay and spruce needles. This ensures a private wellness without short distances. The hostess recommends wonderfully fragrant aromatic oils and stone pine products, which are presented with recommendations for use. Kneipp treading in the outdoor area offers the perfect opportunity to stretch your legs after a sauna session, for example on the natural meadow or in the spring water biotope. In addition, guests can take part in cures with Schüßler salts, which are available from regional pharmacies.
