Alma Hotel

Zürich, Zurich, Switzerland

The Alma Hotel is housed in a beautiful Art Nouveau villa that has been in Seefeld in Zurich for over 100 years.

Freshly renovated and with a new name, it is a temporary home for its guests. The house operates sustainably and socially, serves regional and fair food. In addition to the 16 rooms and two apartments, there are other spaces, spaces for encounters. At the Alma, guests can cook their soup in the communal kitchen, women can relax in the ladies-only wellness area, read over the roofs of Zurich, have a cappuccino or an aperitif on the veranda with a view of Mainaustrasse, or meditate in the rose garden.

As part of the small, fine group of Sinn & Gewinn Hotels, the Alma Hotel stands for the further development of social entrepreneurship. With its integration program, it offers work and training for women with difficult requirements and shapes a corporate culture that sees diversity as an enrichment and shows great consideration for those who are weaker. The hotel group also rents out temporary living space to women, including those in need.

As a member of Switzerland Tourism's "Swisstainable Level II" sustainability program, the Alma Hotel is one of the 20 percent of tourism businesses in Switzerland that are particularly committed to sustainable tourism and deal with the various levels of sustainability. The topic of sustainability is discreetly present and is implemented in a charming way.

Sustainable

ArchitectureSince the company was founded, there has been close cooperation with the Compagna association and the compagna conviva foundation, the property owner. During the renovation of the hotel, a lot was upcycled and some furniture was reused.

FoodWhenever possible, the vegetarian breakfast buffet and the products and snacks at the Honesty Bar are organic or from local suppliers - Bircher muesli, baked goods from regional suppliers, organic eggs, homemade chia pudding, cheese from the cheese shop, vegetable sticks and seasonal fruit. The integration team also always conjures up homemade cakes or delicious brownies. Coffee or tea and tap water are available to guests at any time free of charge.

At the Alma Hotel, women with difficult conditions are given the opportunity to re-enter the world of work. The Sinn und Gewinn Hotels are integration companies and offer part-time jobs for mentally or cognitively impaired women.
In addition, all female employees come from the region and benefit from various discounts e.g.:
- Friends & Family Rates in the three Sinn + Gewinn hotels in Zurich
- Hotelcard for discounted hotel bookings
- Free tickets for yoga lessons
- Discounted wellness admission

EnvironmentEnvironmental protection and sustainability are very important to the owners. They act according to ecological guidelines and work continuously on their processes in order to act in an environmentally friendly manner. They rely on "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" and biological, environmentally friendly products. In the rooms, guests will find certified organic cosmetics from farfalla from neighboring Uster. Façade greening reduces the heating of the building when it is hot. Waste separation in the house is carried out with the recycling service Mr. Green - also an integrated company. Since December 2022, the Alma Hotel has also been awarded the *Level II - engaged* sustainability certificate from Switzerland Tourism.

Well-BeingThe hotel operates a ladies-only wellness area (2 saunas, 1 steam bath, cherry stone loungers in maxi format) and guests can book soothing massages on advance reservation. In addition, there are yoga lessons on the roof terrace through the external partner YogaKlub in the summer months. The hotel is also just a stroll away from the Opera House, the Le Corbusier Pavilion, Lake Zurich and other attractions. Stroll along the lake promenade, explore the lake with a pedalo or stand-up paddle board or linger in the seaside resort of Utoquai with the bathing bags from the innovative Zurich label ZÜRILIEBI, which are available free of charge from the hotel - relaxing is made easy here.

Testimonials

Barbara Halter, merzundmoritz.ch, May 2023
