The guesthouse "Zum Schockelgaul" is located in the heart of a picturesque wine village in Forst an der Weinstraße, with the best vineyards in the Palatinate, surrounded by the Palatinate Forest. A shady kiwi arbor, a meadow with white-flowering elderberries and absolute peace and quiet create the perfect atmosphere for relaxation and inspiration - in the middle of the lively Palatinate.
The house, a former winegrower's house from the 19th century, has been expanded over the decades and transformed into a guest house from 2022 to 2024 with a lot of personal effort and attention to detail. It offers four individually designed holiday apartments as well as a converted barn that can accommodate groups of up to 12 people or seminars. The courtyard and garden have already been laid out and are developing into a green paradise. The furnishings combine reduction and value: shades of gray and green dominate the color palette, complemented by individual custom-made items. Bright, airy rooms combine modern comfort with coziness and create an inviting ambience.
The hosts Nana and Frank have used their expertise to preserve the character of the house while creating a contemporary aesthetic. Eight years ago they took over the adjacent house with a wine bar and opened a village shop that sells regional wines, sparkling wines and design products. With the guest house they are continuing their vision: a place where tradition, nature and modern design come together harmoniously.

Architecture"Change as little as possible, preserve as much as possible" - this principle characterizes Zum Schockelgaul. Materials and furniture were carefully selected: organic, natural and in harmony with the environment. The furnishings rely on wooden floors, lime and clay plaster, organic cotton bed linen and sustainable, partly vintage designer furniture. New items were only used when no reusable materials were available on the building site or in the surrounding area. The concept is characterized by a conscious renunciation - no pool, no superfluous electrical appliances. Instead, the house offers modern solutions with charm: iPads replace televisions, and ceramic coffee filters invite you to brew coffee consciously. Much of it was realized by the owner, supported by friends and the expertise of local specialist companies for plumbing and electrical work.
FoodThe in-house wine bar serves Palatinate wines, often directly from the village, and regional specialties. The ingredients mainly come from local producers or a nearby wholesaler - always as regional, fair and organic as possible. Meat is selected with the highest standards of animal welfare and offered as a premium product. Vegetarians are also happy here.
The team consists of staff from the town and the surrounding area, including many students. Employees can use the community swimming pool free of charge and the grounds for a game of table tennis or a relaxing break in the garden - just like the guests. A particular concern for the hosts is supporting the Maria Montessori School in Bad Dürkheim, for example through the "Tinsel Sundays" fundraising campaign in Advent.
EnvironmentEnergy, water and resources are used carefully, waste is consistently separated and only organic cleaning products are used. The garden is well looked after, but nature always retains its space. It is particularly pleasing when guests use the bicycles provided, make use of the regional mobility service "Mobility on Demand" or travel directly by public transport.
