If you imagine living in a wagon as a colorful, circus-decorated dwelling or a shepherd's wagon in which you can't stand being without thick, self-knitted sweaters made from your own coarsely spun wool, then you're no longer quite up to date.
Since 2013, an ecologically and biologically highly modern form of small, self-sufficient houses - the so-called Wohnwagons - have been built near Vienna in Austria and delivered to the world. There are now over 150 of them, which are now located on Lake Tegernsee or in Tyrol, for example, and enable their owners to live almost or completely self-sufficiently.
Anyone who would like to try out how the dream of self-sufficient living, independent of all connections to the usual supply networks, with complete self-determination in the use of their own resources, can become a reality, can rent a place at the Gutenstein location for a few days. The caravans are in the middle of nature but are equipped with a good self-catering package. The town center is also not far away.
Ronja is one of the first caravans without wheels - for a test drive! She is as cheeky as a robber's daughter, with lovely interior design and a few special features for more storage space. Try out what it feels like to live in a very small space and what is really important to you. Ronja has an area of 18m² and offers space for a maximum of 2 adults + 1 child.
Luna is about attitude to life, about simplicity, about being close to nature and appreciating simple things - about reducing things to the essentials! That's why Luna deliberately doesn't have some things.
An open fireplace that crackles romantically, a large kitchen with a comprehensive self-catering package: what more could you want! Huberto is the third member of the Steinapiesting ensemble, alongside Luna and Ronja. At 46 m2, it is the big brother of the group and, with a double bed and a custom-made sofa bed, offers enough space for families of 2-4 people who want to try life reduced to the essentials. A cozy kitchen, the pampering rain shower and an inviting outdoor area between Luna and Ronja make Huberto a place to relax!

ArchitectureWhen you go in, you can smell and feel it immediately: This is a building with nature: solid wood walls, a natural larch wood facade and clay plaster are used for the construction. The caravan is insulated with sheep's wool.
FoodThe test caravans are always located near a hotel or guesthouse that offers different dishes with a regional, seasonal and organic focus.
Wohnwagon GmbH places great value on working together as equals and has been awarded as a "family-friendly company". For workshops on various topics, there is always the option of paying a reduced social price instead of the full course fee. A special focus is on training young women in technical professions.
EnvironmentA Wohnwagon is an environmental statement. Because living self-sufficiently means living sustainably. The electricity is generated 100% from the sun and wind. You can always see your own energy production and consumption via the modern display and thus become aware of your personal consumption. In the bio-toilet, excrement is processed into the best compost - and 14,000 liters of drinking water are saved in the process. Heating and hot water are also powered by the sun and wood.
