The Keep Eco Rooms

Salzburg, Salzburg (state), Austria

The Keep Eco Rooms stands for sustainability in all areas. The hosts will fi nd inspiration for this: inside the cycle of nature. The motto is "everything you need is already there". In doing so, they give their guests a feeling of warmth, satisfaction and new (rein) discovery.

The Keep Eco Rooms is unique and individually furnished: Reuse and upcycling paired with creativity play the main role. For example, driftwood from the Salzach is used as the basis for the beds. The familiar and cozy atmosphere invites you to relax and enjoy. The rooms are small and simple, but have everything a traveler needs. Our living room and our guest kitchen are ideal for evenings together.

The hosts describe themselves as people full of passion for our planet and our fellow human beings. The house had social backgrounds before. In 2019 a small team decided to design an "Eco Residence" with everything that was already there. The guiding principle that accompanies them is: "As little as possible, as much as necessary."

Guests enjoy the proximity to Salzburg's old town with its classic cultural ambience. Excursions to the nearby mountains can just as well be undertaken. Immediately in front of the accommodation are beautiful, old nut trees.

Sustainable

ArchitectureThe guiding principle for the architectural design was: "As little as possible, as much as necessary". It is important to the hosts: inside to maintain the emotion and charm of the building and not to cause unnecessary damage to the environment through renovation work. If purchases are necessary, sustainability is the main criterion. When making adjustments, the company works with local partners. Not only to follow the exact cycle of all products, but also to enable mutual synergies with like-minded people.

FoodThe kitchen works exclusively with vegan ingredients and pays attention to organic seals. In his own city garden, the house technician cultivates lettuce, radishes, tomatoes, celery, paprika and hot peppers with a lot of love. Various herbs come from the cottage garden. Additional food is obtained from regional farmers in order to keep transport routes short. A homemade specialty are garlic and rosemary fried potatoes: local, organic, vegan and damn good. One of the various dips goes well with this. The kitchen is happy to take food intolerances into account.

The Keep Family is made up of like-minded people who share the same values and views. Flat hierarchies and respectful cooperation are what count when working together. That gives space for everyone to develop. Laptops, cell phones, vehicles or accommodation can be provided as required. A collaboration with the platform “Too Good To Go” enables, on the one hand, the counteracting of food waste and, on the other hand, that people with little financial means can still enjoy a balanced meal through high-quality, organic whole foods. The hosts also support a newspaper project for people with social difficulties.

EnvironmentThe Eco Rooms are only supplied with sustainable energy. There is a photovoltaic system on the roof. Furniture and furnishings were bought second-hand and upcycled. The property uses a simple trash sorting system that both guests and staff keep track of. Showers and toilets have been equipped with a system for optimal water consumption. The detergents are based on bacteria in order to clean as naturally as possible. The hosts enable the guests to support a reforestation project: For 5 euros per night, guests can plant a tree in Ghana. The money goes directly to the organization "Click A Tree". They supported people in reforestation. In this way, full-time jobs are created there and food security is guaranteed.

Well-BeingAt the property, guests can take part in herbal workshops with local medicinal herbs. In addition, yoga courses and guided mediations are offered on the Mönchsberg. The hosts are currently developing a possibility for healers, therapists and coaches to fl exibly rent a room for their work. In the course of this, there will also be opportunities for further offers for visitors.
