So close to heaven - it lives on top of the mountains, where the Unterberger family has lived and farmed the Erbhofhof farmyard for over 300 years in an uninterrupted sequence. In the last three decades, it has been transformed from a simple mountain farm and snack station into a hostel with award-winning architecture.
The good thing about it: the original and familiar atmosphere of the place has not spoiled modern extensions and architectural fantasies. Holidays on the Taxhof are still immersion in bygone times in the midst of unspoiled nature. Because for almost 500 years, the Taxhof is located here at 1020 meters above sea level in a secluded location in the midst of the mountains of the Hohe Tauern and far and wide, the eye sees only meadows, forests, mountains and valleys.
This luxury was then explicitly integrated in the construction of newer suites. In the attic suite one sits on huge windows apparently right next to the mountains and lies in bed under the nocturnal starry sky. The tree house suite, itself made entirely of wood, is surrounded by thick maple stems and branches, as befits a tree house. Of course you are sitting here in the dry.
The various accommodations are all decorated with lots of wood and natural materials, and furnished with a nice mix of old and new furniture. The Unterberger family now cares lovingly and stylishly for their guests in addition to the agriculture. For breakfast and dinner, a large part of the produce from the farm's own farm or from neighboring farmers processed. The delicacies are served in the rustic old farmhouse parlors or on the terrace with a breathtaking but appetizing view.
ArchitectureAlmost 500 years ago, the Taxhof was mentioned in writing for the first time. Still standing here on top of the mountain, the old buildings from traditionally brightly plastered masonry and dark woodwork, decorated with flowers as you would imagine. But in the last 10 years, architecturally, a lot has happened up here. An attic has been converted into a semi-glazed suite, an old grain hut from 1675 converted into a cozy retreat and some old Heustadl gradually up the slope result now the "Heustodlsuite", which was awarded in 2012 with the Rosenheim timber construction award and the AIT Award. The newest baby is the tree house suite, which integrates harmoniously into the surrounding landscape with its modern design using only natural materials. Domestically used wood and stone as well as regional loden and linen fabrics and ceramics are used at the Taxhof. The Unterberger family attaches great importance to working together with regional companies.
Food"Oafoch, honest and guat" is cooked at the Taxhof, which is supplied with drinking water from its own source. Fresh, regional and seasonal, as is the case on the farm, where no supermarket is around the corner. A large part of the products used comes from the farm.
This is called sustainability: for more than 20 years, some employees already work at the Taxhof and are thus as good as the family.
EnvironmentThere is a separate spring that supplies the Taxhof with water. The firewood comes from the own, ecologically driven agriculture (traditional resource and environment-friendly agriculture)
Well-BeingEach of the modern suites and apartments has its own small sauna. A massage can also be booked on request. If you also want to enjoy a really extensive SPA visit, as a guest of the Taxhof you will receive a reduced entrance fee without waiting in the Tauern Spa in Zell am See-Kaprun.
