Sloho Bergurlaub

Hohentauern, Styria, Austria

From the windows of the Sloho mountain holiday you have a direct view of the surrounding mountains. In summer, cows graze peacefully in the pastures, in winter, cross-country skiers glide along the nearby trail - a panorama that touches the soul.

The Slodnjak family has been running this special place with a lot of passion since 2013. Their path led them from a Slovenian farm to a holiday in Hohentauern in Styria to their happiness as a host family. The house with an expanded coffee shop and four private sauna houses with their own garden show how the family's vision is growing. Sloho is more than a retreat - it is a temporary home in the middle of nature, with views of mountains, meadows and the little joys in life.

The nine holiday apartments offer the freedom to spend the day at your own pace, without set meal times or activities. But you don't have to miss out on little pampering moments: if you wish, a lovingly prepared regional breakfast box is waiting for you in the morning. There are packed backpacks for a picnic on the mountain, and homemade pastries are available in the coffee shop on selected days. Those who prefer to cater for themselves can find homemade pasta in the pasta box or order a goulash cooked by hostess Jelka.

The apartments exude individuality. Antique furniture from Slovenia and lovingly restored vintage pieces create an atmosphere that is both modern and traditional. Each apartment is flooded with light, has a fully equipped kitchen, a balcony and a cozy wood-burning stove.

Sustainable

ArchitectureWood plays a central role in the buildings and apartments. The entire building was constructed from regional clay bricks and is heated exclusively with regionally produced pellets. The four new sauna houses delight with warm tones of larch and linden wood and offer guests a place to relax. The house remains true to the motto "Sloho - a wonderful blend of Slovenia and Hohentauern" during construction. Local and regional suppliers from Hohentauern and the Murtal made a significant contribution. In addition, carpenters, tilers and floor fitters as well as plumbers from the Slovenian homeland contributed their craftsmanship.

FoodThe accommodation places great emphasis on culinary delights with lots of love and regionality. The breakfast box, which can be delivered on request, contains delicacies such as homemade jams, alpine butter, free-range eggs and yoghurt from the farm, fresh fruit, muesli, bacon and cheese as well as oven-fresh pastries - often complemented by a sweet surprise. Meat dishes such as homemade goulash are purchased exclusively from regional butchers. The coffee served in the in-house coffee shop also comes from a small roastery in Styria. Juices, beer and wine are also sourced from local suppliers. From breakfast to dinner, guests have the freedom to eat where they feel most comfortable - be it on their own terrace or by the cozy fireplace. Culinary offerings such as Mama Jelka's goulash or the Sloho pasta box with ingredients for a fresh pasta bolognese can be delivered directly to the apartment. The desired time is simply agreed the day before.

EnvironmentThe holiday apartments reflect a particular attention to detail. Many of the furniture and furnishings were renovated and upcycled by the owners themselves to give them a second life. For example, an old wooden door became the counter in the coffee shop, and the workbench from the Slovenian grandparents' house now serves as a desk. Water and energy are used sparingly, and the apartments do not contain any plastic materials at all. Even the toothbrush cups and soap dishes are handmade ceramic unique pieces from a small workshop in Vienna. Many cosmetic products contain Swiss stone pine - a regional type of wood that only grows at higher altitudes and is known for its pleasant scent. Great importance is also placed on regionality in the culinary offerings and in the in-house shop. Products from Austria and the Slovenian homeland are in the foreground. This philosophy is brought to guests' attention through displays, newsletters and personal conversations.

Well-BeingFour of the nine apartments each have a private sauna house (including a panoramic relaxation room and fenced-in garden) - ideal for anyone who enjoys private saunas. In addition, there is a pinewood sauna in the adjacent building, which is available to all guests for cozy wellness hours (by prior arrangement). A yoga and fasting retreat will also be offered in 2025.
