Sant'Egle

Sorano, Tuscany, Italy

The Italian flair of Tuscany can be discovered and enjoyed to the fullest in the Sant'Egle. A morning begins here with a wonderful view over the Tuscan nature and its own bio pool, accompanied by the twittering of the birds and the sounds of other wild animals around the accommodation. The organic breakfast can be taken in the garden.

Afterwards it is worth taking a walk through the neighboring forest or having lunch in one of the surrounding medieval villages. The range of retreats and massages in the Sant'Egle also ensures extensive relaxation. After a yoga class at sunset, you can have a BBQ or homemade pizza from the wood oven.

The hosts Erika and Alessandro have always wanted to do something good for the environment with the guests and to get to know people who share these beliefs. The property has been owned by the hosts since 2010 and has been extensively and sustainably restored. The respectful treatment and preservation of nature and a sustainable lifestyle are paramount and play a role in every day's decision.

Sant'Egle has already convinced many institutes and universities as a model example, as have guests who like to come back again and again and transfer the lifestyle they live into their everyday lives.

Sustainable

ArchitectureThe 600 year old house was built in the classic country house style of Tuscany. From the roof to the floors, sustainability has been taken into account, since all materials come from the direct environment, such as volcanite, from which the house is built. The interior was created thanks to creative upcycling ideas or from natural materials. This means that each of the rooms has its own character. The remodeling of the property was carried out exclusively with organic materials, taking care that the former farm blends in perfectly with the landscape and that the surrounding nature is not negatively influenced.

FoodBreakfast consists of organic products and homemade cakes, fruits and vegetables from our own garden, homemade yogurt, salami, cheese and freshly prepared eggs. Fresh juices and smoothies round off the breakfast menu. Dinner, for example, can consist of a BBQ for two, which can be enjoyed under the stars. The vegetables for the dishes come from our own garden and are therefore always seasonal. If guests rent the entire property, there is an option to book a private chef. In general, all ingredients for the supply of guests come from the immediate vicinity, only tea and coffee have a longer transport route. There are also various restaurants nearby, which guests can also visit.

Solidarity is the guiding principle behind the host's many social activities. Each year, 10% of the profit is used to financially support various projects. The hosts mostly know the projects personally, such as the Italian Forestry Fund, which wants to preserve the biodiversity of the Umbrian forest. But small projects are also made possible, for example children in poor areas in the Tunisian city of Douz were given shoes, laptops and pens. The hosts have only one employee who takes care of the cleaning of the property, who lives not a kilometer from the house and has been part of the project for many years. She can use the services of the Sant'Egles for herself and her family free of charge.

Environment100% of the energy consumed is obtained from renewable sources. Every day, attempts are made to produce even less waste, or to recycle it even better. Guests are also invited to separate their waste and compost organic waste. Alessandro and Erika clean the streets and collect the rubbish from other people or factories. They have launched a creative upcycling project in which they create new things from old things. Every tap has a saving function and in general care is taken to use only as much water as necessary. For example, rainwater is collected and used to water the flowers and fields. Guests receive free natural or carbonated water. A photovoltaic system supplies the system with electricity. Only LED lamps with timers are used. The hosts are dependent on a car and have opted for an LPG-powered car. Only fully biodegradable products are used for washing and cleaning. The company's own bio pool is also free of chemical substances.

Well-BeingThe clean air and the nutrition in the Sant'Egle ensure well-being. There are also various detox offers, such as mediations, yoga classes or massages. The farm is just a few steps from the Terme di Sorano, a hot water spa. There are numerous possibilities for excursions into nature: a hot spring and the forest are within walking distance. There is also a river and a lake that can be explored, as well as the sea, which is only 60 km away. E-bikes can be rented on site for bike tours. There is no public transport around Sant'Egle, but there is a free charging station for electric cars.
