Nestled in a small valley near the mountain town of Monchique lies Quinta da Lila, an authentic Algarve farm surrounded by a newly planted vineyard and lush trees: olives, oranges, lemons, tangerines, and many more. The houses offer breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains, most notably Picota, the second highest peak in the Algarve at 700 meters, which is visible from every house.
The Quinta was opened in January 2025 after years of meticulous restoration. The historic estate – at least 130 years old – was restored exactly as it once was, without major alterations or additions. State-of-the-art technology and infrastructure were carefully integrated to ensure 21st-century comfort without compromising the authentic character of the farm.
The vineyard is managed with a strong commitment to organic, regenerative farming principles. No herbicides are used, it is solely relied on organic fertilizers and cover crops to nurture the vines and promote a healthy, sustainable ecosystem. The vineyard is home to a diverse array of grape varieties.
The interiors reflect a special love of detail: mid-century minimalism meets warmth and soul. Vintage furniture and carefully selected design pieces lend character to each house. A highlight in the "Yellow House," for example, is the original 7-module "Strips" sofa by the renowned architect Cini Boeri from the 1960s. In the master bathroom, a solid oak bathtub, inspired by Japanese minimalism, provides intimate, cozy, and artistic moments. Warm materials such as wood and leather characterize the entire decor.
At Quinta da Lila, guests will find peace, authenticity and beauty – a retreat away from the tourist crowds, perfect for people who appreciate architecture, unique interiors and unparalleled nature.

During the restoration of Quinta da Lila, the original architectural style was meticulously preserved while everything was carefully renovated. The "Yellow House" in particular, showcases the sophisticated architecture of its former owners and stands out from the typical quintas in the region. Sustainability played a central role: cork insulation, Biocal plaster, 100% electric heat pumps, and solar hot water are just a few examples. High-quality outdoor furniture from Fermob minimizes maintenance and replacement needs, while inside, many high-quality vintage pieces were used to avoid new production. Custom-made beds, wardrobes, and other furniture were crafted from durable woods by a local carpentry workshop. All the stone used in the exterior was either sourced from a quarry just a few kilometers away or recycled, for example, for pathways and terrace walls.
The entire Quinta da Lila team is from Monchique and directly supports the local community. While membership in the "1% for the Planet" program was considered, the focus so far has been on supporting local initiatives that directly benefit nature and the people in the surrounding area.
The houses are heated with 100% electric heat pumps, and hot water is supplied by a solar thermal system. The roofs are insulated with cork – a local, CO₂-storing material that provides excellent insulation. Biocal, a natural clay plaster, allows the walls to breathe, and UVC filters in the pools ensure clean water with minimal chemical use. No herbicides are used in the vineyard; weeds are removed by hand or with a mower. Personal care products such as shampoo and shower gel come from 8950 Cosmetica, are 100% local and almost entirely chemical-free. Furthermore, the Quinta participates in the "Corredor Verde" program, protecting the landscape from invasive plants, planting native trees and shrubs such as olives, cork oaks, and holm oaks, and thus actively working to preserve nature.
