The northern lights (Aurora Borealis) are known to be a luminous phenomenon in the northern hemisphere, which, despite all the scientific explanations, also has something magical and mysterious about it. And whoever was allowed to see the lights is considered lucky. Incidentally, the polar lights are caused by charged particles that interact with the earth's magnetic field.
In the family-run Polar Lights Lodge, the chances are very high in winter to see the beautiful greenish lights and to combine this event with a wonderful nature holiday. The five wooden huts are located in the middle of the forest in north-west Finland. The huts are not connected to water pipes or the electricity grid. So there is no running water (water canisters are brought from the main house to the cabins), the electricity required is generated by solar panels and heated by a pellet stove. The huts vary in size for two to ten guests. The style is simple and comfortable with lots of wood and furnished.
The "Forest Restaurant" is located in the main house and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner on reservation. In the evening you sit here at a kind of indoor fireplace. If you still feel cold, you can go to the sauna hut (Mökkisauna) at any time.
On site there are husky tours, reindeer sleigh rides with feeding, horseback riding followed by a campfire with delicious soup. The animals are treated lovingly and you learn a lot about their habits and habitat. Through large panoramic windows you have an uninterrupted view of the beautiful nature and - depending on the season - of snow crystals in the morning, northern lights in the evening or the sun that never sets in summer.
