Petrina Elatis

Elati, Thessalia, Greece

Elati village and Koziakas mountain are a beautiful place to live. In the middle of Greece there are still mountainous regions that are untouched by tourists and have lots of nature and traditional culture. A fantastic place to live.

The Petrina Elatis guest house consists of four stone houses, which accommodate two double rooms, four cottages and two apartments. It offers wonderful views of the fir forest and the mountains. From the largest house (Paneolos) you have a clear view of the Mavropouli peak and Mount Loupata.

The guesthouse was built on his family's property in 2008 by Efi, her daughter Aristea, who was born here, and Aristea's husband. Before the stone houses existed, there was an old wooden house in the same place that used to accommodate holidaymakers. With the help of their friends, the Petrina family was able to rebuild Elatis and make it what it is today. A welcoming place for relaxing holidays. The interior is traditional with a modern touch - the bare stone walls and lots of wooden furniture ensure great comfort and match the surroundings.

The three want to offer their guests something very special and maintain very personal contact. You can collect mushrooms together and cook together in the evening or go swimming in the Aspropotamos River. They are also happy to explore the surrounding small villages with their guests on hikes or make music together. It becomes particularly cozy outside by the open fire when a fresh and healthy mountain tea or hot carob and almond milk is cooked. In the evenings there are often traditional dishes such as trahanas (wheat, yoghurt and eggs are preserved in tiny grains of dough for winter storage), homemade pasta, traditional pies or wood-fired pizza with wild mushrooms and local cheese. Incredibly natural!

Sustainable

ArchitecturePetrina Elatis is the only stone-built guest house in the area, in the middle of the fir forest and about two hundred meters from the village center. The building material comes from older stone houses that were no longer used or dismantled by their owners. The wood comes mainly from the area and the local craftsmen assisted the family in the construction.

FoodSeasonal, local, organic and slow food products are offered. Most of the products are local and fifty percent come from organic mountain farming. Especially honey, jams, eggs, summer and cheese. In summer, fresh fruit and vegetables grow in the garden. And wild herbs, mushrooms and fruits are collected in the area.

EnvironmentAll organic material becomes compost in the garden. Chemicals are largely avoided for cleaning and the waste is recycled. The energy-saving lamps provide pleasant light. The compost supplies the organic garden.
