The view from the rooms of the Locanda Mistral falls on the 3,000-meter-high mountain Sautron as well as the Monte Ciarbonet, the Valle Maira brook, which gurgles, and the large garden of the property, which invites you to linger. Now and then the cows of the neighboring farmer can be seen grazing.
Here, guests can look forward to a holiday in the midst of the impressive mountain landscapes of northern Italy. The largely untouched nature offers many traditional high-altitude hikes in the immediate vicinity. The hosts are Manuela, who is also the head chef of the restaurant, and Renato, an experienced mountain guide for more than 20 years. Driven by their love for the mountains, history and culture, the two run the hotel together.
The Locanda Mistral is an 18th century farmhouse that now has 14 rooms. Initially, Manuela's parents opened it as an agriturismo at the end of the 90s and ran it for years, albeit with only four rooms at the time. The company has grown over the years, but is still a family business that creates a mixture of traditional and comfort.
The host family attaches great importance to living sustainability, time and space to relax as well as excellent gastronomy, which enables an authentic and unique holiday experience.

ArchitectureDuring the renovation in 2019/2020, high-quality, natural and ecological materials were used, such as local larch wood, natural stone for stone slabs and walls, and local mortar. The sustainable and award-winning renovation was accompanied and developed by the architect and KlimaHaus expert Dario Costamagna. The difficulty of the project was that a building volume should be added to the already existing building - and that in an irregular typography and influenced by the specifications of the municipal building plan. For this reason, an attempt was first made to ensure that the extension would not affect the natural lighting conditions of the existing building and at the same time integrate the garden into the structure. The building was then expanded using drywall construction. It was particularly important to Dario Costamagna to use the materials in such a way that they can be dismantled and rebuilt separately at the end of the building's life. The carpentry that helped design the renovation used innovative materials for the renovation, such as low carbon timber. By using sustainable materials and taking into account the natural conditions, the extension has been recognized as a valuable project: for the environment, the Valle Maira, the residents and the entire community.
FoodOnly seasonal and local food is served at the property. For this purpose, organic quality food is used, which Manuela and her team prepare with great attention to detail and refinement. Guests can enjoy the culinary delicacies every day for lunch and dinner. The chef attaches great importance to the quality of her ingredients and is always trying out new interpretations of traditional dishes. Organic vegetables come from our own garden, cheese and butter from the dairies in Stroppo and Elva, honey from Acceglio, flour from the Cavanna mill (Dronero), liqueurs from Palent and Stroppo (the famous white Genepy, La Freidio) and strict certi fi ed Piedmontese meat is used. The wine list offers the best labels from the Langhe and Roero wine cellars, with a few samples from South Tyrol, and skilfully rounds off the culinary experience.
The search for new employees is mainly limited to the valley; Due to the sparse population, some employees also come from the region. There are also several collaborations with local partners, companies and suppliers.
EnvironmentAt Locanda Mistral, the environment is treated with respect and responsibility - this is also our own philosophy. For this reason, the beauty of nature with its cultural wealth is preserved and cared for, and efforts are made to operate sustainably and locally. The hot water is heated by solar panels, the garbage is separated and only ecological cleaning agents are used. In addition, the property largely dispenses with plastic and has installed energy-saving lighting. The garden is planted and maintained with love. The food waste is put on the in-house compost or given to the neighbors' dogs.
Well-BeingThe Locanda Mistral is an oasis of calm in the middle of the untouched nature of the Maira Valley. The large private garden with its many plants, bushes and green islands invites you to linger and relax. The nearby Maira brook can be reached via direct access and offers the opportunity for a regenerating Kneipp cure. Since the beginning of the 2021 season, there is also a sauna in the garden. Your host Renato has been an experienced mountain guide for more than 20 years and can be booked for individual tours. In winter as well as in summer, he lets guests participate in his broad knowledge of the history and culture of the region.
