Hotel Alte Schule

Lindau, Lake Constance, Germany

Ready for the island? Then go there! For a relaxing island vacation WITHOUT environmentally harmful flight miles, it is enough to get on the train and go to Lindau in Lake Constance.

Get off at the terminal station, walk to the old school for a few minutes and immerse yourself in the tranquil island life. Everything is surrounded by the lake and by limiting the possibilities there is the slowdown that is typical of the island, which leads to relaxation of all the senses.

Gabriele and Marc Hübler, passionate restaurateurs, have finally made their dream come true after a lot of experience in the industry. Your own hotel at home in Lindau. You bought an ancient building in the middle of the old town on Lindauer Island, which used to be a school for rich patrician daughters - which was extraordinarily progressive at the time.

Where the luxury girls from back then were able to perfect their education, guests have been enjoying themselves since April 2016. In addition to different sizes, there are three different furnishing styles to choose from in the rooms. The Hüblers love their Lindau and the region so much that they have furnished and furnished the rooms in the style: "Bodensee", "Blumeninsel Mainau" and "Hausberg Pfänder" thematically and with great attention to detail and color.

We also featured this accommodation on our blog at Five places for city trips in Germany.

Sustainable

ArchitectureThe Hüblers bought a house over 600 years old, which originally served as a school for wealthy patrician daughters, and was accordingly richly equipped with capitals decorated with columns and gracefully curved masonry. The architectural treasures of the past epochs were processed and made visible again. The wooden rotten roof beams were used for decorative furnishing elements. Executing craftsmen were mostly directly from the site, as were all the processed materials, such as the stones for the wall in the Pfänderzimmer themed room, which actually come from the local mountain of the same name.

FoodMany foods for breakfast in the old school come from a maximum of 50 km and are picked up or delivered by various farmers when they come to the weekly market in Lindau anyway. The coffee is organic and 100% fair trade. The secret recipe of the house is a Bircher muesli, the composition of which is of course not revealed. Food intolerances or special dietary requirements can be considered with advance notice.

The operators of the Hotel Alte Schule love Lindau and its island. They donate for the Lindau drum train, the local water guard and fire brigade, for the Lindau Children's Festival and are also a sponsor of the local ice hockey club. They also have a social view when choosing their employees. Whether 50 + / 60 + or single parents, here the employees have the freedom to adapt working hours and breaks to their personal circumstances as flexibly as possible due to operational reasons. And in winter, when there is not so much to do in the hotel, Marc Hübler teaches unskilled assistants in gastronomy as part of professional training measures to help you create better prospects.

EnvironmentAs is always the case in old towns for various reasons: Due to the protection of historical monuments, it was not possible to install a block-type thermal power station in the old school and solar cells on the roof are also out of the question. So energy is used as sparingly as possible, at least through many small measures. So there is no continuous operation of lighting and coffee or dishwasher. There are no minibars in the rooms and there is a large self-service refrigerator in the lobby. And the consumption of heating and air conditioning is continuously monitored by intelligent systems. Waste is, of course, separated and recycled, but above all avoided by dispensing with outer packaging and one-way containers. In order to compensate for the carbon footprint that arises in the process, trees are donated by the hotel operators to the local city nursery.
