The HEMAT is located at 1243 meters above sea level in Vorarlberg in the Great Walser Valley, more precisely in the municipality of Fontanella.
The HEMAT was once a mountain farm that offered the host family security and protection. Today, host Christine shares this with her guests. The house has a history of around 450 years. In 1983, the former stable building was converted into living quarters by Christine's parents. In the summer of 2024, the HEMAT was finally opened for rental after being redesigned by Christine.
The HEMAT offers a breathtaking view over the entire valley. A freshly planted vegetable garden extends from the accommodation to the valley side, while a herb bed has been planted on the mountain side. Guests can help with this for a small contribution or with their own harvest.
For relaxing days, local non-perishable foods are available in the chalet, while fresh dairy products are available in the neighborhood. A large fire pit with a view of the valley invites you to spend the evening under the sparkling starry sky or to grill dinner on a stick.
The house consists of two apartments that differ in their unique design. While Chalet FREDERIK rests in earthy natural tones, Chalet URBAN impresses with airy and harmonious color combinations.
Both chalets are connected by a staircase and can also be booked together for retreats, corporate events, courses and seminars.

ArchitectureThe house consists of a wooden structure with insulation made of natural materials, while the interior walls are designed with wood, wallpaper and clay. Herbs have been incorporated into the clay walls to match the space, giving each area a specific scent and energy. The floors are made of natural wooden planks and sandstone, while the furniture is made of local wood. The beds in Chalet Frederik are made of spruce, while Chalet Urban has beds made of pine. The bed linen is made exclusively from organic cotton, and the bed system in Chalet Urban is based on hemp and sheep's wool. All renovation work was carried out with local craftsmen and materials, and the interior fittings also come from regional manufacturers.
FoodGuests have the opportunity to use the harvest from an organic herb bed and vegetable garden. In addition, regional products are available in the chalets, which can also be prepared for a fee.
EnvironmentThe heating is powered by an air heat pump, which is combined with wood to minimize the ecological footprint. In addition, an efficient waste separation system is practiced to reduce waste and conserve resources. In addition, the rooms as well as towels, bed linen and kitchen linen are cleaned and washed with alternative cleaning products to further minimize the environmental impact.
Well-BeingMassages can be booked during the stay, but only if two or more massages are requested per day. Yoga classes can also be arranged if booked prior to arrival.
