Haus am Watt

Heringsand, Nordfriesland, Germany

In the middle of old fruit trees, the thatched house on the mud flats lies on a mound behind the North Sea dike, embedded in a landscape of green meadows and fields. The around three hectares of beautiful, natural garden around the house has plenty of nice places to read, take a nap or look up at the sky. Children are happy to explore the wild pond biotope or to make friends with the chickens, cats, ponies and horses. In the evening you can light a campfire together with the wood at the fireplace. Guitar players are welcome. A beautiful little bathing beach is only four kilometers from the house and easy to reach by bike.

The atmosphere in the house is deliberately kept simple and natural, the spacious rooms and apartments are individually and comfortably furnished with mostly antique country house furniture.

The Wadden Sea National Park begins just a kilometer away from the house and was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in mid-2009: an ecosystem unique in the world, inhabited by a fascinating flora and fauna, and its rhythm of wind, water, mudflats and salt marshes is determined. The diverse flora and fauna can be best explored on walks, guided mudflat hikes and birding excursions. You can cycle along the dike, for example to Büsum or to the kilometer-long sandy beaches to St. Peter-Ording. You can take a boat to the Halligen and see the seal banks there. In addition, there are various sights in the area: the Multimar Wattforum in Tönning, the Dutch town of Friedrichstadt or the Noldemuseum in Niebüll.

There are special family weeks for families, on which exciting excursions are planned that lead into the world of the mudflats, birds and sheep. In addition, creative offers such as earth building and drawing, painting and collages take place directly at the house in many holiday weeks. For adults there are regular seminars and workshops on Ayurveda, yoga, mediation and therapeutic fasting.

Sustainable

ArchitectureLegend has it that the Haus am Watt stood on the Geest until about 250 years ago, about 40 km from its current location. There it was mined stone by stone and then rebuilt on the fertile marshland. Since then the farm has been family-owned and was used for agriculture until 1960. When the courtyard was restored in 1989, it was particularly important to the operators to maintain the original character. They deliberately keep the ambience simple and natural, the spacious rooms and apartments are individually and comfortably furnished with mostly antique country house furniture.

FoodBreakfast is served in the morning in the large old hall of the house. All dishes are vegetarian, the ingredients are certified organic and are freshly prepared - right down to the freshly baked rolls and the eggs from our own chickens. In the afternoon there are home-made cakes or savory items and a rich selection of cold and hot drinks, served in the hallway, on the terrace, in the garden or by the pond. In the evening, the hosts cook a delicious 3-course vegetarian menu from certified organic and predominantly regional cultivation. On request, self-catering guests can have an organic box with fresh fruit, vegetables and other organic products delivered to them in the holiday home.

Well-BeingVarious seminars and workshops are offered: Yoga, Ayurveda, therapeutic fasting, tango courses, special parent-child programs, creative workshops. There is a barrel sauna at the natural pond.
