When the guests at Gutshof Kaiserbacher Mühle wake up, they hear the twittering of birds from the Palatinate Forest and the rustling of the Kaiserbach stream. The view is directed to the inner courtyard or the old walnut tree, the stream and the sunrise over the stable, as well as the associated chickens and rabbits that roam freely on the estate.
The Kaiserbacher Mühle estate has been inhabited by nine families for 20 years. The former mill is in a secluded location, the next town is three kilometers away. The families have children of their own and therefore know how the guests' children can feel comfortable and let off steam: at the brook with a brook playground, which is only 500 meters away, at the walnut tree, which can be climbed on, or in the stable with the animals. The host family are Anja, Leonie and Ulrich Zimmermann. They used to live in the mill and furnish the house. They have been renting it out to other families and guests since summer 2020.
The manor has already housed a few people and was used for various purposes: Historically, the manor was a flax mill, later a trout farm. During the First World War, the mill served as a home for officers who brought their many horses. Subsequently, the mill was converted and became the supply unit of the former "county lunatic asylum". Cows and pigs were kept and grain and vegetables were harvested, which were given to the neighboring clinic as food. In the 1980s, the building was again converted into a pub with an associated horse breeding facility. Since 1999 the mill has been a residential project for several families.
ArchitectureThe accommodation combines the historical and the modern, trying to preserve as many elements as possible and to incorporate them in a stylish way. The natural stone and wood come from the region. The renovation took place in cooperation with a regional craft company. All building materials were chosen ecologically, such as lime plaster, wooden floors, IsoFloc insulation and natural stones.
The motto of the housing project is "Living and working on the edge of the Palatinate Forest". The families live together in harmony and over the years some synergies have developed. This also applies to the physical and financial participation in the “Lobby for Children eV” association, which offers many events and a nature experience center. As the children of the association get bigger and bigger, the association develops with it and takes the first steps towards co-working and co-living.
EnvironmentThe barn roof generates more than 100% of the electricity, which can be used to charge the guests' electric cars, among other things. In addition, the water from its own well is used to flush the toilet, for the washing machines, for the garden and for the animals. The animals are taken care of by regional farmers. It is heated with regional wood pellets or wood chips. The host family's household is vegetarian and is only cleaned and supplied with products from the health food store.
Well-BeingThe hosts describe the location between forest and wine in the southern Palatinate as an Eldorado for hiking, horse riding, biking and climbing. By arrangement, both guided horse and pony hikes and barefoot hikes can be booked. The Bachtal is in a quiet location, yet easily accessible and offers a number of excursion options. Guests can enjoy the peace and nature and experience something at the same time.
