Gut Feeling - Steinhaus

Oberaudorf, Bavaria, Germany

The Gut Feeling stone house is a very special place that combines peace and harmony with unique architecture.

Located directly on the Auerbach stream in Oberaudorf, Bavaria, each room offers a unique view, creating a unique atmosphere depending on the direction and perspective. Whether the morning sun rises over the mountains, the view falls directly into the garden, or the calming greenery and treetops are before your eyes – the rooms with their characteristic sitting windows invite you to linger and marvel.

Christine, an interior designer, and Markus, an architect, built the house in 2016 and designed it with meticulous attention to detail. The solid brick structure, with its 72 cm thick walls, contrasts with the neighboring wooden house and was designed in a modern, timeless style. The house opens to the outdoors with large windows, creating a constant sense of connection to nature.

The interiors radiate a pleasant warmth thanks to the combination of clay walls and light-oiled solid wood. Each room feels like a cozy cave, both bright and open. Christine and Markus wanted to create a place that meets the needs of their guests—a retreat for those who appreciate something special. The personal attention provided by the couple's mother-in-law completes the experience and ensures that every guest immediately feels welcome.

Sustainable

ArchitectureThe exterior walls consist of simple, double-row bricks constructed as a single-skin component. This construction method enabled the integration of the characteristic seating windows that frame the view outside. The deep window reveals enhance summer thermal insulation, contributing to pleasant temperature regulation. All components were manufactured by local craftsmen, and the materials used are predominantly sourced from the region. The exterior bricks blend harmoniously with the solid wood walls inside, whose natural, light-oiled surface creates a warm and inviting atmosphere.

FoodThe house offers spices and pesto from local suppliers, as well as wine from Germany. Mountain farmer's apple juice is available as a non-alcoholic alternative. Herbs and vegetables from the property are available for guests to use, and guests can pick fresh berries and vegetables from the roof terrace.

The employees all come directly from Oberaudorf, which helps support the local community and creates a personal, familiar atmosphere.

EnvironmentThe holiday home is equipped with photovoltaic systems powered by a battery storage system. An intelligent control system ensures optimal use of the battery and its consumers. A wallbox is available for electric vehicles, powered by solar power from the battery. The shared heating system is based on an air-source heat pump, which, in combination with a biogas combined heat and power plant, ensures self-sufficient operation in winter. The entire system is complemented by automatic ventilation, while in summer, deep reveals ensure thermal insulation. Waste is recycled through waste separation and composting. For guests who wish to travel in an environmentally conscious manner, arrival by train is possible, and e-bikes are available on site.

Well-BeingThe house has a sauna, and the roof terrace offers a relaxation area with a view of the starry sky. A "natural plunge pool" directly in the Auerbach stream invites you to cool off, and a jogging path along the Auerbach stream runs right outside the door.
