GAST.HAUS.PORZELT

Klingenmünster, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany

See. Smell. Taste. So even as a layman you can easily recognize your favorite wine. Where better to try that than on the Southern Wine Route in the Palatinate. This region for connoisseurs in the sunny south of the republic. Here (almost) everything revolves around good food and the right wine. The organically run Porzelt winery is located in this dream location directly below Landeck Castle.

The Porzelt family consists of Anna and Andreas, their four children and their grandparents. Three generations lovingly cultivate the incredible 100,000 vines in the various locations. Classics such as Silvaner, Riesling, Burgundy, Dornfelder - but also a Chardonnay are pressed here. You can taste these great grapes in one of the oldest sandstone vaulted cellars in the Palatinate, which the family has extensively and stylishly renovated. Because the foundation stone for the winery was laid more than 200 years ago. In addition to maintaining this traditional business, the family has successfully dedicated itself to modern and sustainable organic farming.

In the old half-timbered house there are three spacious holiday apartments for two or four people. All apartments have been tastefully and brightly furnished. They are elegant and simple in natural colors and have been built with natural materials. In addition, the stone pine beds exude their very special forest scent. Not only does one recognize a good wine with all one's senses, this is also the best way to discover good accommodation. The beautiful nature between vineyards, forest and stream, the fragrant wood in the accommodation and the good wine, which is the heart of it all. See. Smell. Taste. Very easily!

Sustainable

ArchitectureThe oldest part of the property dates back to 1786. Since then, the courtyard has been gradually expanded. There are already plans to expand the property further and sustainability will also be a priority. The use of natural materials in the construction of the holiday apartments, such as lime and clay plaster, lime paint and oak floorboards, create a good and healthy indoor climate. The interior is characterized by wood fibers, wooden windows and natural furniture. The family has been working exclusively with local craftsmen for many years.

FoodThe family's wines have won several awards. The Porzelts are "Producer of the Year"; as Organic Winery of the Year and have the "Best Organic White Wine of the Year". The Silvaner is the specialty of the winery. It makes up a good 20 percent of the grape varieties and is known beyond the borders of the region and in top gastronomy.

EnvironmentAs NABU members and supporters of various projects, the Porzelt family lives sustainability holistically. The winery is managed ecologically according to strict Bioland criteria. This sustainable cultivation is not only important for the quality of the grapes, but also preserves the natural environment. The biological cleaning agents in the guest rooms are used gently and in an environmentally friendly manner. The waste is of course separated and recycled. All textiles, such as the linen bed linen, are made from organic cotton. The entire heat generation is controlled by woodchips, since these are mostly regional, the environment is protected by short transport routes and leftover recycling.
